badfic_manor | Pripyat, day 3 -- Robin -- [In person]

[It was already getting dark, and Robin had not only managed to get herself lost, but also regretted not falling asleep at the Manor in her overcoat. Russian weather was hardly desirable, espeically when you're only wearing 1 layer. Instinctively, she went for her blakcberry, but soon remembered she longer had it. As the wind picked up, she ducks into the nearest building, sinking down the wall to the floor with lack of energy. After several minutes of shivering violently from the cold, Robin had to force herself to get back up, and look for materials to burn. Since she had stumbled into what appeared to be a school, material wasn't hard to find. One or two smashed chairs, and a pile of books later, and anyone who's passing will see signs of a fire.

A while passed, before, despite her better judgment, the young girl eventually fell asleep, only to be woken suddenly about an hour later by the strangest of noises. It sounded like some kind of animal, and as she got to her feet to investigate, a creature of some description suddenly burst through the door, and skidded to a halt a few feet away. Out of fright, Robin's craft sent shoots of flame at her small guest..]

[She thinks for a moment]

..Experience. Age is simply the passing of time, but if you've spent your whole life in a cave, that wouldn't make you wise by default.

[This was an interesting question; she was the youngest of the hunters back home, and on more than one occasion she'd had to really insist on a point or change of plan for anyone to really listen to her]

[He grins.]

Age is a measure of time that a person has been alive. And that saying, "with age comes experience" that doesn't always apply to those, as you said, live in a cave. They'll know a lot about the cave and can navigate in the dark by teaching others but that's really about it. Make a hell of a guide.

See, this whole thing where people can do as they need and forget the rest is wasteful. I'm more inclined toward the factor that with experience, there were mistakes made and most good judgment was made by making bad choices first which stands the reason where good advice would come from in an ideal setting. It's kinda like, "Never squat with your spurs on."

[At first, she doesn't understand his joke. But, then realizing, she laughs. Her smile remaining, she goes to reply]

You're quite odd, aren't you..? I mean, you're very articulate, and then you'll come out with something like that

[At the memory of the joke, she laughs a little more]

Odd? Never.

[He playfully waves his hand dismissively.]

I like to look at it as creative thinking, or abstract problem solving. Take your pick.

[He laughs softly. The more time he spent making strange assessments to their situations made the time pass easier. He remembered cracking jokes among his fellow Marines during downtime or ropeyarn. It wasn't something he did often and only when the mood strikes him.]

Mmm..abstract problem solving - it sounds more original

[The conversation had certainly taken her mind off of the miserable weather; Sheldon was a character in his own right, and she enjoyed his company]

[He laughed at the new name.]

Alright. I'll keep that. Abstract problem solving it is.

[She smiles, like a child who's just been praised. Looking back at the fire, she notices it's starting to die down. So, she focuses on it for a few moments, the flames eventually rising back up.]

We should probably find more to put on the fire..

[He stands up and grabs another chair to break.]

I'm on it.

[He slams it against the far wall and grabs a few text books except for a few. One from each subject he saves. He's wanting to teach her Russian so he'll need those. He tosses the books in the fire first before adding the wood from the chair.]

[Robin watches as he breaks the chair against the wall; somehow, she thought he enjoyed breaking things a little too much, but, they needed fire wood. She noticed that he saved some books but threw others on the fire]

What're you going to do with those..?

[He lowers himself down after throwing the wood into the fire next to Robin and hands her a book.]

I'm going to teach you Russian. It's doubtful that we'll be able to use it on a regular basis but we can probably use it as a code between us when we get back to the Manor.

[She blinks at him as she hands her one of the books]

Okay, but I think I should warn you, I'm not very good with languages..

[She knows Italian and English, and the former was only taught as an added bonus]

Ah. Well, think of this as Italian with a -ski sound behind it.

[He smirks even though it's highly unlikely that they'll get far in the teaching.]

[She laughs lightly as she looks through the book he gave to her; it appeared to be a text book of sorts, and upon closer inspection it turned out to be science. Robin smiled at that; she was good at science, and she would bet money she'd still be good at it in Russian]

I'm not entirely sure that's how it works

It's not.

[He smirked and opened the book.]

Tell you what, I'll translate and you do the assignments given.

[She smiles and nods]
