Cup 010: Iroh [Video]

[The shot is of Iroh, looking completely relaxed, in some small and cozy-looking cafe. The seats are wood and red cushions, the walls wood paneling with paintings hanging from them. Iroh has a veritable buffet of food before him: pastries and croissants, pies both fruit and meat, cups of soup, breads, one platter of cheese and another of meat. Right in front of him is a silver coffee pot and a cup of steaming coffee, next to another cup full of tea. A wine bottle in the corner of the table finishes the display.]

You know, people here have said that this city...Paris...has the finest food in the world. I'm inclined to agree.

[He inhales deeply, clearly pleased with his great spread of food.]

What is it they say here? Bone apeteet?

[He smiles and nibbles a wedge of cheese.]

I'm willing to share, if anyone else is hungry.

[Iroh returns the smile.]

Greetings. You do look wet. Please, sit.

[He indicates the food before him.] Perhaps something warm to drink?

Oh, forgive me. I do not know you yet. I am Iroh.

Why thank you.

[He heads to the table to sit down but bows politely before he does so.]

I am Chevalier D'eon de Beaumont, it's a pleasure Monsieur Iroh.

[He gracefully serves himself a cups of Coffee and some soup as only one trained in the proper French etiquette could do]

[Iroh swallows his food before speaking.]

Please, just Iroh is fine. Or Uncle, if you prefer.

I have not seen much of you before. Tell me, have you enjoyed the manor so far?

I am rather new, and I have kept mostly to myself. The manor is... quite peculiar, for lack of better words. I would very much like to understand it more, I have been keeping record of all the strange events. However, there are very urgent matters in my era which I must address.

[He takes a little sip of his coffee]

Although, I must say it is quite nice to see Paris again, although it is many years from how I knew it.

Are there really? Nothing too serious, I hope.

[Iroh leans back in his chair, buttered croissant in hand.]

I have never known this city. It does not exist where I come from. Yet I am quite happy here, so far. The food here is exquisite.

I'm afraid so, the King had sent me to negotiate with the Queen of Russia to form and alliance between the two countries.

[D'eon looks briefly surprised for a moment when he hears that Iroh does not have Paris where he is from, but smiles at the compliments to his homeland]

Paris was the cultural center of the world in my time, and from what I have seen and heard it has remained so. The finest in the arts and food could always be found in Paris. The only place that could possibly rival the sheer splendor of this city would be the Palace of Versailles.

[He remembers that he is supposed to be eating and takes a few sips of his soup]

[Another place Iroh doesn't know, but he understands the weight of the situation just the same.]

A noble task indeed.

I would believe that. This place is as cultured as any place I've seen, and I've traveled all over the world. Er, over my world, anyway.

[He looks up at the mention of a splendid palace.]

Really? Are you familiar with it?

Versailles? Yes, King Louis the fourteenth resides there, I work under him personally so there are many times where I reside there as well. Also...

[His cheeks turn a slight shade of pink and he smiles]

... My betrothed serves under the Queen.

[and he gets back on track]

But the palace is absolutely exquisite! It has the most lovely garden that is tended to several times daily to the King's liking, as well as lovely set of fountains! And that's just the outside! Inside is simply stunning! There is a lovely ballroom referred to as the Hall of Mirrors- oh dear I'm rambling, I do apologize.

Ah, then you are an important man in your country. I did not know. [He inclines his head in a shallow bow. Nevermind that Iroh himself is also an important man in the Fire Nation. Or was, rather.]

It does sound wonderful. I wonder if we could find our way in?

But of course, I know several entries into the palace, for the sake of the king's security and such. It's a few hours journey by horseback just on the outskirts of Paris. I'm sure I've seen some horses pulling carriages around although they are rather overweight...

[Ah nothing like those horse-drawn carriages for the tourists.]

If you wish to go I would be more than happy to take you.

I would appreciate it if you'd do the honor of showing me the palace.

[He looks at the food spread across the table.]

Er, once this is done. Shame to see it go to waste.
