36th Blast || Mello || [Voice, PRIVATE to Matt] [In Person] ((BACKDATED to just after the heist))
[A very wet and very angry Mello storms out of the Louvre museum. He pulls out his blackberry and encodes the message, holding it to his mouth like a microphone. The message is private to Matt, completely unhackable. His voice is shaking with as is the rest of him]
Matt, come in, Matt. The fucker got away. And he left the goddamn jewel at the scene. He took it and left it! Just to fucking taunt us! I need you to go through the footage you took, anything and everything you got. I've got an evidence bag with one of the fireworks, we'll go through that when I get back to the apartment. We are going to catch that fucker!
Jesus! Fucking! Christ! I'm going to fucking kill someone!
[With a strangled yell he ends the call, stomping his way down the Paris street. He looks murderous.]

[Her tone's calm, not patronising]

[All he ever does is lose. It's his lot in life. It's his fate. But she doesn't need to know that. He sort of looks listless over being angry for a moment as he walks away]

Oh. [Well, a heist isn't technically GOOD, but it's not gruesome murder, so that's a plus. Also, he has time. And Mello's his homeboy. And maybe he's feeling just a teensy bit better about life. It's strange. And probably fleeting. But he might as well enjoy it.]

Mello smiles, feeling a lot better than he had just a moment before]
Come on, Matt and I aren't staying too far from here.
[He jerks his head in the direction of the apartment the two are sharing.]

I'll put the chocolate on. [Mutters] Then I'm gonna take a shower. Fucking thief ruining my fucking clothes.

There are four doors off this room, two are opened. One is the brightly tiled bathroom and the other is the kitchen, straight ahead. One of the closed doors leads to a small den with the largest TV possible. The other is their bedroom. Should L venture in there he'll find Mello's newly expanded wardrobe, Matt's clothes all over the floor, several more overflowing ashtrays, a large unmade bed and a host of electronics (everything from video games to advanced espionage equipment) spread over the room. Several of them have been taken apart and are in various stages of repair before Matt got bored or called away.
Mello leads L into the kitchen, which is mostly dark colored steel and slate. It's also messy and the open drawers reveal mostly deep dark chocolate and brightly colored junk food. The remains of Matt's dinner is still on the stove, bright orange cheese stains the bottom of the pan. Mello gestures for L to sit...er crouch...at the island. He lets out an irritated sigh as he drops Matt's dirty pan into the sink. He does nothing to wash it but it's out of the way. Next he gets down a large pot and a cylander of what looks like gourmet chocolate shavings. He gets the milk out of the black refrigerator.]
Damn thief not only got in passed us he replaced the jewel with an exploding decoy. I have no idea how he had the time or even how he got in. He just fucking...appeared! I had every possible entrance guarded!
[He turns on the electric stove, glaring at the slowly heating milk as if it questioned his capability.]
((OOC: Yes I got carried away but shut up, I enjoyed it.))
[In Person] - Good narrative descriptions are never lost on me!
Were you able to consult a blueprint?
[He can think of several ways off-hand someone might be able to slip in unnoticed through an unconventional entrance.]
[In Person] - D'awww you think it's good!
Of course, Kid gave us enough time to and it's the Louvre the blueprints weren't hard to find. Every entrance covered and Matt had cameras at every one, we were communicating via walkie talkie and he didn't see anything.
[Sigh]
He's reviewing the feeds now, in case there's something we missed.
I didn't even know a damn thing was wrong until those fucking fireworks went off.
[He points to an evidence bag on the counter containing the remains of a cardboard rocket]
I'm going to source the materials tomorrow.
[In Person] - Duh. ^_^
He does think the fireworks were a nice touch, though.]
We need to do something about B.

Yeah, we have to. Look, stir this until it's creamy I'm going to go take a shower. Then we can talk.

[Mello pads in barefoot with his hair pulled up into a high messy ponytail. He's dressed in tight pale jeans and a black tank top. It's probably the most skin L's ever been allowed to see. He can see the extend of the scarring on Mello's arm, shoulder, part of it on his chest. If Mello turns around he can see part of Mello's tattoo on his shoulder and upper back. The material is also a lot more yielding than his usual leather, more fluid, and one of his gunshot scars is barely concealed by the bottom of the shirt. So he might catch a glimpse of that too.]
What's B up to?
[In Person]
It's finished.
[He steps aside and lets Mello take over from there. His mind has already moved onto the much more deadly question at hand.]
He plans to replace me.
I would like to keep that from happening.
[He says this very seriously. As if that wasn't obvious.]

Yeah, I think that's a good plan.
[He considers the hot chocolate in the cup and his own finely manicured nails, trying to look nonchalant rather than worried. B is a force to be reckoned with especially when he's had time to plan]
Where is he?

I don't know.
[That's part of the problem. He's so hard to keep track of.]
In the manor, he has taken to living in the ductwork. [Which is horrifying enough.] In a place as big as Paris, he's even harder to draw out.

[He takes a sip, bitterly]
Goddamn it. He must be out of his barely functioning mind about this. He's been given a golden opportunity to fix his mistake before it happens.

[L kind of doesn't like thinking about that.]

[Mello sighs]
We have one trick up our sleeves, one card he might not have seen. It's not much but...
[Mello trails off. He doesn't want to say "you've got me" because that sounds like absolutely no help at all. He has to think about how to phrase this]

[And so is L. But he feels more... panicked about it.]
I do have more allies this time. [Last time it was just Naomi Misora. She was good, but... well. She wasn't exactly a successor. And now she's dead. So.] I will need your help.
[All the help he can get, really.]

L, I know everything there is to know about B and the LABB murder cases. I know more about Shinigami and their power than anyone who isn't aligned with Kira, and I definitely know more about them than B. I'll be...
[He doesn't want to say "better than Misora" because although that's what he's thinking he knows how much L liked her. Nor does he say "your partner" which is another word he was tossing around because L doesn't need a partner]
I'll be there for whatever you need.
[In Person]
Thank you.
[He climbs back into the chair at the counter and slurps the hot chocolate.]
We need a trap. We must make him think he is winning, until it is too late. And then we will be able to expose him.
[The gears are turning...]

He's quiet for a moment. Probably getting to work.
