Craft 018 ╬ Robin ╬ The eve of the battle [In person]

[Robin is just sat by the lake, enjoying a little peace and quiet before the events due to go down early the next day. She'd been training, she'd helped where ever she'd been welcome; and now, all there was to do was wait. She wasn't nervous about fighting, not in the slightest. She would rather not if necessary - but it was this tme around, so she was going to do so until they'd won]

[Sheldon approaches her from the right side with a part of a rabbit and an apple along with a mug of cider.]

You should eat something.

[He sits down next to Robin and looks out over the water.]

[He knows that making an empty promise wasn't going to do them both any good. He decides to take a logical approach.]

That all depends on how well everyone gets along and how far they're willing to hold down their grudges. Honestly? I think so.

[And it was this time that Sheldon didn't seemed bothered with her wisdom. He gives an exaggerated expression of surprise and puts his hand to his chest.]

Why, Robin, I'm touched that you care about me in this way.

[Yes it was a poke at fun but it was also a poke at the hero types which isn't him.]

Okay, on the serious note, I know what you mean. The last thing we need are martyrs.

[He gave a smile of his own and looked back at the lake.]

Yeah. That's why everyone needs to pull together in the planning. I hadn't seen much done but then again, I'm only a scout.

[He's already anticipating the worse with himself which is why he's so calm.]

But it's after gaining our intelligence that I'll need to fight.

[He looks back at Robin and his smile dropped.]

I'll need a weapon. This plot isn't over yet.

[Sheldon motions with his hand and nods.]

We'll make it.

[He places his hand on her back and rubs in light circles.]

Don't worry so much. We'll make it. I promise.

It's okay. I got used to it.

[He gives a small smile and nods.]

[The contact was a comfortable surprise. He didn't fight off the urge this time and put his arm around her shoulder, keeping her close. Robin had opened more doors within him and all without provocation or force. There were no demands and no lies between them.

Sheldon's head turned to look at Robin and his free hand brushed a strand from her face with a small smile.]

[There was a sense of comfort and trepidation mixed since he didn't want anyone else to see them should she eventually suffer embarrassment. Sheldon didn't push the issue since they had been through so much together as not only partners but as friends. Even if he felt that the relationship was a bit one sided, he still wanted to be there for Robin if not for anyone else.

His first thoughts mostly to keep them both calm, a song came to him and he began to sing it without giving thought to his embarrassment.]

The thundering waves are calling me home to you
The pounding sea is calling me home to you.

On a dark new year's night
On the west coast of Clare
I heard your voice singing
Your eyes danced the song
Your hands played the tune
T'was a vision before me.

We left the music behind and the dance carried on
As we stole away to the seashore
We smelt the brine, felt the wind in our hair
And with sadness you paused.

Suddenly I knew that you'd have to go
[ From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/l/loreena-mcKennitt-lyrics/the-old-ways-lyrics.html ]
My work was not yours, your eyes told me so
Yet it was there I felt the crossroads of time
And I wondered why.

As we cast our gaze on the tumbling sea
A vision came o'er me
Of thundering hooves and beating wings
In clouds above.

As you turned to go I heard you call my name.
You were like a bird in a cage, spreading its
Wings to fly
'The old ways are lost' you sang as you flew
And I wondered why.

[He nods and sings it again. He would never sing to anyone else so this was something that he reserves strictly for Robin. It was not only a distraction from the possibility that they both could be very injured and possibly die from this, he didn't want to hide what he was really feeling toward her despite the age gap.]

[Once the song had ended, he felt something stir in the back of his mind that the lyrics were more true than he came to realize. He lifted his chin and looked out over the lake. That feeling was something he needed to hold on to. Something could take a turn for the worse and they needed at least something to recall later in time when they were separated.

Subconsciously, he did just that and turned to look at Robin.]

If something were to happen, we shouldn't forget. At least....we'll have something to recall later.

[identity profile] sands-in-mexico.livejournal.com 2010-11-30 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[That was something he can certainly agree on. Moments like this were really rare for him and sharing it with Robin really brought home how much of his life would have been wasted if there wasn't someone to share moments like this with.]

I know I'll remember it since you seem really tolerant of my terrible singing.

[He gave a slightly sarcastic grin.]

[It did take him a little by surprise that she was remaining so optimistic even at the poke to himself. It certainly gave him something else to focus on later and that memory isn't going to just slip away into obscurity. He'll hold on to it and he gives her shoulder a gentle squeeze.]

You're right. Not about the singing but about everything else. I'll keep it. And it'll be our code.
