001 - Naomi Misora - [Audio/Text]
[Uneven breathing heard as the audio suddenly comes on]
Wh –
[and is just as abruptly cut off. Naomi puts a hand to her temple, frustrated at her impulsiveness. She had to be careful. He already knows her voice after all. Voice, face, name, everything! For all she knows, she was and still is under that monster's control. Frantically, the former FBI agent switches to text instead.]
Who's in charge here? I need to get to the closest police station. Please, it's urgent!
[Not even they could be completely trusted, but god, she was finally free from that unnatural, unbearable death wish that had smothered her for what seemed like an eternity, she was finally free to think, and who knows for how long such freedom will last. Her finger flies toward the "send" button but pauses at the last second. Naomi reads over the note she had just written in that obvious rush of panic. Ugh, like an agitated mess.]
Thank you.
[She decides to tack on for good measure before ending the feed along with a long overdue exhale.](ooc: She'll be ultra paranoid with the first few people who respond but will get progressively calmer further down the line as she comes to terms with what's actually going on.)
[In Person]
I guess we'll take it then. [She looks at the label on the side] Xbox360? That hasn't even come out yet. Perhaps you're not alone. I think I might be starting to feel somewhat old too. [She inserts the disc into the Xbox and starts it up.]
[In Person]
[He's looking at all the game consoles and shakes his head.]
I can't tell which one's which to be honest.
[He picks up the game controller for the PS3 and looks at it.]
Wow, this is like....an arcade on steroids.
[In Person]
Close, but I don't think that's it. [She knows what the console looks like but isn't entirely sure about the controller, but it probably resembled the one for the Xbox she's familiar with. They all looked the same after awhile. Naomi proceeds to examine the candidates.] I think this one's it. [She digs out a controller with a small X in the center.]
The X identifies it as an Xbox controller, but I'm not sure if this is the correct version or not. [She tries it on the console and immediately receives a response.] Oh, it works! [Naomi proceeds to look for its partner and hands that over to Tom.]
Okay, uh, let's see. How do we do this. [The screen now depicts the "Xbox Live" window, which of course is useless since they obviously don't have internet here.]
[In Person]
Okay, so how do we get into the game? And what does all that stuff mean? It's like....NASA stuff here.
[He picks up the manual and tries to read it only to get irritated with it and tosses it over his shoulder.]
It's nerd talk in that book.
[laughs with a closed mouth grin.]
[In Person] (Forgive me for any inconsistencies, I know nothing about the xbox orz)
[She picks up the booklet and skims over some relevant sections.] Oh, okay, uh. [Pretending to know what she's doing, Naomi fiddles with some buttons. Now she was in some sort of Marketplace section for some reason.]
How about we try this again? [Misora sighs in annoyance at her own ineptitude and restarts the system until it gets to the Welcome screen again. Now, actually sort of knowing what she was doing, she was able to get into the sign in screen. There were multiple users to chose from.]
Looks like there had been others who had already played on this system. Use one of their accounts or make our own?
[In Person] (It's okay. It's one of those things that's pretty terrible anyway.)
Oh....what's the difference? If one's the same as the next I don't think it's really going to matter if I created one or not. Most likely I'll be too busy to play anyway in the future....[Slight pause with a wrinkled nose.]
Nah. I'll stick with one that's already created.
[In Person]
What?
[What greets them is an avatar of some guy, or was it a girl, with long purple hair, stark white face, lipstick, some bizarre, ugly polka dotted suit, and what looked like clown pants.] Wow, looks like someone had a little too much fun customizing their character. I didn't even know you could do that.
[She starts up the game as the Halo: Reach intro plays and kind of just gazes at the screen, drawn in to the scene. Even she had to admit, the effects were incredibly well rendered.]
[In Person]
Man, that's terrible. Poor wardrobe choice. That guy's got to go back to fashion school. I should write him a ticket for being a distraction.
[Once he notices the graphics come on, he's practically glued to the screen.]
Whoa....that's awesome!
[In Person]
[At the menu, Naomi actually takes out the game instruction manual first instead of going straight for senseless button smashing, having learned her lesson the first time. After a few trial and errors, she was able to get into the multiplayer mode for two players.]
Uh, I guess we'll go with this one. [Misora randomly chooses the setting resembling some sort of high-tech research facility. To accommodate for both players, half of the TV screen was dedicated to Naomi's player's point of view, and the other half to Tom's. Both characters apparently already had a gun. Naomi fires off a few random shots at the ground.]
Nice. But hey, I can't see you. [She points at the blue circle on the bottom left corner of her side of the screen.] I think that's supposed to represent our field of vision or something. If you're close enough, I think I'm supposed to be able to see a dot there.
[She awkwardly turns her character around a few times. No signs of Tom, no dots. She smiles.] Looks like we're going to have to track each other down.
[In Person]
Am I the top or the bottom in this thing?
[He pressed the x button and fires his gun at the wall and the voice says "Suicide" comes over the speakers.]
Oh shit! I died!!
[He starts laughing as the replay shows the whole thing.]
Whoa!! That's some wicked ricochet.
[In Person]
Come on Tom, really? You didn't last 5 seconds!
[She tests out some more controls before she starts moving her character again, careful in aiming so that she wouldn't repeat the other's mistake, however hilarious it had been.]
Who knew suicide would be built into th game.
[In Person]
[He clears his throat at the sheer oddity of his statement and inhaled deeply.]
Okay, another go.
[Once his character blinks back into the game, he starts moving again. Since being completely inept with the controls, his avatar bumps into the wall and falls on it's ass which causes Tom to give a rather odd twist of his face.]
You've got to be kidding me. Get over there!
[He's moving his arms instead of the controller which isn't helping his character much at all.]
Go...go!
[And off he goes into a vat of something and boils alive. Another announcement of "Suicide" came over the speakers.]
What?! I moved! I moved!!
[In Person]
Okay, how about we switch to a less dangerous environment? That open field with the rocks seem more humane ... maybe.
[In Person]
[He rubs his hands together and licks his lips.]
Now let's get down to business.
[He tries again and finally managed to get across the catwalk.]
Wow, the sound effects are amazing too. It sounds so....oh, what's that!?
[He begins shooting it and a barrel blows up.]
Cool!!
[In Person]
Well that's a relief. I'm glad that you're willing to test the game for future reference and not just, say, satisfy some hidden suicidal tendencies that I hadn't been aware of for personal amusement. I was starting to get worried there.
[But she does let part of her smile escape, glad to have bounced back from the trauma back home enough to recover her old sense of sarcasm again.]
[In Person]
Okay. I'll be serious now. Time to go hunt you down.
[He picks up the controller and begins to go on the pursuit.]
Now, where's that little blip that's supposed to be you?
[In Person]
Huh? What are those? [Her character's standing in front a pile of, firearms? She discards hers and picks up a different one, then switches again, and again, and again, until she finds one she's satisfied with.]
Heh, no idea what's the difference between any of these, so I'll just take the coolest looking one.
[She moves her guy around some more until she manages to find Tom's character.] Let's see how well this new gun works. [She smirks as she hits a button only to have the camera zoom in at some insignificant corner of a wall. Looks like she had picked up a sniper rifle.]
What the? [She frantically moves her character around as the camera pans around off in every which way.] Gah, can't see anything, and the controller sensitivity in this mode is ridiculous.
[In Person]
[Tom maneuvers his character toward a vantage point and accidentally hits a button to bring up the H.U.D. and is suddenly confused.]
Whoa!! I can't see!
[In Person]
Well, that's new. [She jokes, at the same time managing to get out of zoom mode.] How did you pull that up?
[In Person]
I figured it out. Here, if you push this down, it'll bring up the HUD and man, this seems complicated.
[In Person] (Just wanted to end this properly :D)
