[Rolling to face the door he winces at a stray beam of light coming through the curtains.]

[He slips in, at least being gentle with the door and shutting it quietly, and stops, leaning back against it.]

[He has a partial idea what prompted this, and part of what's going on, but he's a bit wary of assuming specifics...]

I'm sure you're aware that John's dead.

[It's more of a mumble as he shifts to get himself upright. Having not slept from his own neuroticism keeping him awake he found himself surprisingly docile.]

I've heard. I - saw the video that went up that day and had decided it was a good day to stay in my room and read. [Because that...wasn't normal.]

The author did something to me. She gave me more memories I don't remember happening. I was the military dictator of Japan and the new carrier of the Nicole virus - the basis for Line. I gave in to the temptation I criticise and kill others for without thinking about it.

I didn't know what I was doing. I was mad on completely undiluted Line - I didn't care what I was doing.

[Oh. Dear. He's heard enough that while he doesn't know details of the situation, he knows the implications.]

I - what little I saw, I knew it wasn't normal behavior for you - I was mostly staying out of the way quietly and not trying to do something because ... well, things seem more unstable than normal this week, so I didn't think it'd last very long.

[And he's pausing, thoughtfully.] If you remember different things that could be a future, then - you can use that to watch out for what would lead to the one you'd want to avoid.

[He's silent for a while. He didn't know what to think. It was the second situation that'd happened. But both with polar opposite outcomes. One where he was happy - even if he fell into a state of catatonia. The other? Lost it all in his struggle for power.]

That.. would have been for the best.

[He knew Sagaru was right, but that didn't stop his outburst. Getting up sharply he grabbed him by the shoulders.]

You don't understand do you? I didn't remember the Manor when I returned home. If I was weak enough to make the decision once who says I won't be again?

[The first thing to stick out is less related to this than a side tangent, something he's been afraid of and almost avoiding investigating-]

[Because if they don't remember the Manor when they go home, then he'll be right back where he started-]

[But then - Mello didn't remember, while others who'd gone and come back said "here again?" - so he shoves it aside to deal with later.]

...That'll be up to you, if you don't remember - if it's not the only outcome, then it may not happen anyway -

And... of the people who've gone and come back - Mello has returned but doesn't seem to remember this place at all, while others disappear, then return and complain about being here again.
