[It's early evening, after dinner but before nightfall, and Yukito is out on the sports track. He's jogging more than he is running, though it seems like he's been at it for a while - a light sheen of sweat has broken out across his forehead and his breathing is heavy. Finally, he takes a seat, shirking any bleachers to stretch out on a patch of grass near the field.
He's had a lot of of energy since coming to the manor, and apparently he's doing his best to burn it off.]

Oh. Were they getting too long?
[He's speaking amicably. Most things Yukito say are amicable.]
no subject
No.
[In all actuality, he was more bored than anything else. He couldn't write for obvious reasons and carrying a backpack only meant that the straps would be cut.]
I trim them to keep them healthy.
[That's what he was told anyway.]

[Yukito approaches, then, looking for shears. He apparently hasn't noticed Edward's appearance yet.]
Would you like some help?
no subject
With what?
[He took a step back.]
no subject
I could look for shears inside? I'm Yukito, by the way.
no subject
I'm Edward.
[His voice was very small but heard only by Yukito.]

It's good of you to take care of the plants like this. Thinking about it, I guess I haven't seen any gardeners around.
no subject
[Edward looks up and blinks his wide eyes to clear the dust then looks at the plants.]
They need me.
[He's been the unofficial gardener since their return from the beach and hardly thinks about anything else. His mind is pretty simple and his actions mirror his thoughts in every way. He can read, but writing was a little difficult for him if not impossible.]

[He inspects the plants, before touching a leaf almost reverently.]

[Edward watches Yukito for a moment then bends at the knees to crouch next to one of the ferns he's been nursing back to health.]
This one was sick.
no subject
What did you do to heal it?
no subject
[He watched Yukito closely and watched his hands. He always admired delicate touches of the hands and the intricate way it moves.]
no subject
It's good that they have you to look out for them.
no subject
They like to listen.

[He lies back against the grass]
Feeling better?
no subject
Sort of. I'm tired, but I still feel very.. energetic.
no subject
So nothing else is new.
[He looks at Yukito, lying there in the sunset with that warm smile on his face makes Touya smile. He can't help it. There's that feeling again, that inescapable warmth, and once again he's reminded of Kaho's final words to him. They both had someone else. He reaches out and gives Yukito an affectionate sort of pet.]

[He seems slightly surprised when Touya reaches up and touches him, giving him an almost confused look, before he closes his eyes briefly and leans a little against the hand. After a moment, though, he looks almost embarrassed and stretches, folding his arms on the grass and tucking his chin on his crossed wrists.]
Do you want to play basketball later?
no subject
Mm, sure.
no subject
.. I think it would be fun.
no subject
It would.
[He hesitates for a second, but his hand seems almost to be acting on its own as it rises up and touches Yukito's face very lightly. And Touya is glad to find that his skin is as soft as it looks and as he realizes he always hoped it would be.]
no subject
I'm glad you're here. I'm not sure what I'd do if I were alone.
no subject
Me too. It was really hard without you.
no subject
I'm sure Sakura is doing just fine.
no subject
I hope so.
no subject
She's fine, To-ya. She's a strong girl. I promise she's happy and healthy.
no subject
Thanks.
[His hand falls]
Just miss her.
[And his father]
no subject
You'll see her again soon. The manor can't keep us here forever.
[And then, maybe against his own better judgment, he brushes Touya's hair from his forehead again and leans down to press a brief kiss to his forehead.]
no subject
Yuki...
[But he stops and leans forward, trying to catch Yukito's lips with his own]
no subject
I - ah, To-ya -
[He smiles at him, then says a little breathlessly:]
I've got homework to do. I'll see you later?
no subject
I'll see you later.
[He gives a stiff smile]

He knew that Yukito wouldn't mention the kiss. Or...not as such. It would probably be as if nothing had happened between them.
But this didn't comfort him in the least.
He hopes, distantly, that Yukito was just startled. That something would come of it. He lies in the grass, watching the orange sunset darken to purple, to navy, to black]
