[Mello is neither impressed or excited about a Hawaii beach vacation. He had been living in LA as it was, what was Hawaii but LA beaches with hotter weather and more idiots to cause problems. Tourists. He didn't need them. Nor did he desire anything to do with swim trunks or sun block. All foolishness and vanity when there were bigger fish to fry and better things to accomplish than a full body tan.

But

He has ventured outside for one reason and one reason alone: Near has NOT gone outside.

How does he know this? Did he ask? No. Why the fucking hell would he bother to ask? Just LOOK at the kid, he probably doesn't know that the sun exists outside of fancy screensavers. There is no way that he could have ever gone into the sunlight because if he had he might actually have some hint of a skin tone.

Anyway.

Mello now stands on the beach in a getup entirely inappropriate for such a location -

-but fuck it, he's still gotten farther than you Near.

And he smirks to himself behind his gas mask. A small victory has been won today]

[[Well there's something you don't see every single day, ironically enough while you're outside with someone similar on the brain unbeknownst to either of course.

Any time any one wears a mask it's good to discern a few things.

-They don't want to be seen for some stupid reason (like Zechs)
-They have a horridly ugly face (like Zechs)
-Or they're a pompus asshole (like Zechs)
-And are blond (like Zechs).

[Though you are not the person whose attention he is trying to get, but he won't give you any possible satisfaction in knowing that.]

Its true, the mask calls even more attention to himself, but the one who wants to see his face most of all - 'kira' - could not risk being so outwardly aggressive as to try and take the mask, and anyone who DOES try and take it would be people worthy of investigating as minions of kira. And thereby giving Mello a smaller pool of suspects to work with.

And also it is always fun to make people feel uneasy, which a strange mask seems to do quite well. ]
