The bigger picture now, is to figure out if there is a way to keep these oddly gained memories at all. Mello and Near are obviously both out to challenge Light's grasp on the world when he returns, presumably around 2010, if Near was to be believed, and there's no way he's about to lose what advantage being present at the Manor actually gives him.
