Teru Mikami ~18~ Survival Strategy [Accidental Video -> Video]

[This recording starts completely unintentionally. Here is Mikami's room. Anybody who ever had the pleasure of seeing this before knows it should be the picture of order and ... well, OCD. Right now? It's not.
Which very clearly is not Mikami's fault as there's a little curious Pikachu climbing around in Mikami's paperwork.
Behind it? A very exasperated prosecutor. Exasperated enough for it to be actually noticable. His paradise of order had been touched. This is the apocalypse!]

Will you just stop this? It's not for playing! Can't you... get out or something?

[And this is Mikami trying to communicate with his pokemon, trying to pick it up even. But Pikachu's faster, escapes his arms and positions itself on his bad, crincling the formerly flawless sheets. Mikami sighs]

Fine, stay there. I mean... stay, do you understand?

[He doubts it, but it was worth a try. Then his look wanders to the blackberry. He clears his throat]

Ah, I apologize, I didn't notice this was on. But I meant to ask something anyway.

What has become of the welcome committee? How many members are still here and active? I think we should take care of actualizing the welcome packet as well.

[Mikami pauses for a moment. This was awkward]

... and how do you get these... ah, animals to listen to you?

[Saguru is outside, and has managed to salvage riding gear from the storage rooms and stables - so one hand is on the bridle and lead for a Rapidash.]

I've been trying to keep up with it; fortunately we haven't had that many arrivals that would require special handling, so I haven't had any gunpoint conversations in a while. [There's a dry chuckle at that.]

It seems like they act a good amount like the creatures they're most similar to, so it's about like handling any other animal; try finding something for it to play with besides your papers?

[Mikami runs a hand through his hair and sits down on the bed as well, which results in the Pikachu happily nuzzling against him. It likes his master, but just doesn't get him sometime. Mikami looks down, a bit at a loss as off what to do]

I'm not experienced with animals [Obviously] so your advice is most welcome.
[Sometimes Mikami can be so very oblivious]

And yes, the arrivals I talked to were mostly disbelieving, but never difficult to talk to.

I admit, my expertise is mostly falconry birds - very much not "pets", but rodents are actually quite intelligent and relatively social - also inquisitive, which's why they'll get into trouble when they're bored. [He may not be an expert, but it sounds like pretty much anything would be helpful, here.]

I think it is a good idea to find the others that were involved who're still here, and see if we have anyone else willing to help; also my previous volunteering still stands - if there's an arrival who looks like they might be dangerous, I'll talk to them. A good number of them are just used to threat situations and end up on edge - hazardous to handle if you're not used to it.

That does sound like a good idea, but please be careful with it.
[Mikami values Hakuba as a helpful ally, he wouldn't like if something happened to him. Especially after Light's disappearance and Misa's suicide Mikami had been even more on the edge about people getting hurt.]

Over the last months our organization has become more than a bit lacking, it's about time to change this. We can get through dangerous situation best when there is some kind of common basis as of how to act.
I was thinking that it might be useful to add a list of people's special abilities to the welcome packet, so that newbys know who to turn to should they get into danger.

It's part of the reason I volunteer - I have to deal with situations just as volatile or moreso back home as part of my work, and I can think of a couple of our new arrivals where I suspect almost anyone else here would've ended up dead - someone used to more dangerous situations is going to assume that waking up somewhere alien is a threat situation, and be on edge accordingly, even if they wouldn't normally be a threat unprovoked. I'm also not above having Tris waiting in the wings for backup if needed, either.

[Ah, and the business.] We do need to - strengthen contact with the people that're still here who were helping, and see who's willing to volunteer; I think I may post again in a couple days asking who wouldn't mind helping. I know there's people with powers here who wouldn't be approachable or willing, so it's better to make sure people are thinking of volunteers.

That's right. I wasn't intending to list those dangerous or unwilling as someone to turn to for newbys.
Even if it's unfortunate we can't force anybody into cooperating with us.

I do think some of the new arrivals would be willing to help out, too and do their part to make this place work properly. The more we can strengthen trust and the willingness to help each other out the better is is.

That I don't doubt - I know we had an academic just recently who was actually asking about efforts to understand what's going on here and maybe work on figuring out how the Author functions. [Of course, he doesn't know yet some of the rest about Charles...] Tris has returned, although she's less comfortable with people she doesn't know, and it's been fairly quiet with new arrivals recently - I think the new dragon, Alexstrazsa, may be willing to help, as well.

[Tris... the girl Mikami had such a fantastic start with. But she was always helpful and good, her return was really good news for Manor society... Probably not so much for Tris herself though]

I haven't yet met Alexstrazsa personally, but such strong help would be most appreciated.
We do have lots of talented people, if we could achieve for everyone here to stand together some more that would be most desirable.

They seem to be highly intelligent creatures. *there's a Victini sitting politely on his head, inspecting some coins he'd offered it from his pocket. The creature trills as if agreeing with him.*

I suppose if yours had a companion to play with, I could perhaps help you put your things back in order? *he might have offered to 'talk' to the Pikachu for him, except he hadn't told anybody yet that he was telepathic and that would be a bit suspicious, but Victini could easily distract it*

[Ah, this seemed to be someone relatively new. And someone who appeared sane at first sight which was always a plus. Mikami briefly overthinks if he has anything in his room that should not be seen by strangers, but after a moment he's sure that there is no such thing.
The man readjusts his glasses and offers his almost-smile.]

I'd be really thankful for that.

[And apparently so would Pikachu, it's curiously peeking at the screen now]

*Victini trills at Pikachu in greeting, and Charles can feel just how much Erika wanted to go meet this new friend.*

Alright, what's your room number? I'll be right there.

It's room 27.

Pika!

[And that was happy Pikachu-approval.]

I'm on my way.

*kills the feed and leaves his room, Erika flying above him as he looks for room 27. As he knocks on the door, he reaches out for the man's mind to see what kind of a person he's meeting*

((Mikami's stoic. Mikami is serious. Mikami hides everything he's feeling very deep down. Mikami deeply, deeply hates injustice. Mikami would sacrifice himself for other's.... something like that))

[In the time Charles needed to get to the room Mikami had started putting papers together again - thankfully they weren't anything really important, just detailed notes on what had been happening at the Manor since he arrived and interesting things he found out in the library.
As he heard the knocking Mikami goes to open the door, Pikachu rushing out as soon as he does so.]

Ah, hello.

*he doesn't show it outwardly, but he's thoughtfully categorizing what he learns about Mikami and his Pikachu. Erika drops down to the ground to chatter with the other pokemon, her happy trills asking to play*

Hello. It's nice to meet you.

[Pikachu is more than willing to accept, it happily jumps around the other pokemon a bit, very glad to finally have found company that wasn't as serious as his human.

Mikami bows his head a bit, as a gesture of politeness]

It's nice to meet you, too.

[Mikami steps back from the door to let Charles step in on world of chaos that is his room, even though he's already reduced it a bit]

*after a silent request from Charles, Erika tags Pikachu and dashes down the hall a bit in order to play where they won't make a whole lot of a mess.

Charles matches the gesture and steps in, letting out a low whistle when he sees the mess*

Well, I must say it's no worse than Sean's room on a good day.

[Pikachu happily chases after, accompanied by cheerful 'Pika Pika's.
And Mikami knows he wouldn't want to be in this 'Sean''s room. His neurotic obsession with order wasn't about to get any better soon]

I usually keep everything tidy, it's astounding how such a small being can create such disorder...

The trouble of parents everywhere, I'm afraid. These creatures seem more like children than pets.

*they were actually quite intelligent, despite looking like animals. He couldn't understand them in words, so much, but the coherency of their thoughts are something he normally only gets from humans.

Charles crouches to gather up a set of papers* So how long have you been here, if you don't mind my asking?

[Mikami gets to work again as well while they talk, relieved to have some help. He isn't very used to dealing with disorder, it usually just doesn't happen in his room.]

I arrived on the 27th of December in last year.

[Saying it makes him realize just how long it had already been.]

You've only arrived recently, if I'm not mistaken?

Yes, a couple weeks ago. I'm still getting used to the idea, to be honest.

*he pauses, a worried frown crossing his face*

Have you been home at all since you arrived here?

No, not once.

[Mikami sighed slightly.]

I've seen people leave and occasionally return, but I, myself, was never among them.

I'm sorry. There must be people back home that you miss dearly.

*he couldn't imagine being away that long, from Raven if no one else, but if what everyone says is any indication... he should probably prepare himself for that now*

[Mikami shakes his head]

No, actually not.

[It's not that at all. There is Kiyomi Takada, the only person he'd consider a friend, but it doesn't go as far as missing her. But what is important...]

The only thing I miss is my work.

[And how he does so. As much as other people would miss their loved once]

*he watches him thoughtfuly*

I would apologize, but you appear content with that right now. I can relate, to an extent.

*he sets the stack of papers on Mikami’s desk and bends to pick up some books that escaped Mikami’s first sweep*

I am. My work is the purpose of my life, you could say.

[Mikami briefly flips through the collected papers and puts them roughly into order again so that properly sorting them would not take ages when he did]

Perhaps trying playing it? Maybe it's just vetting for attention

That seems possible.
