[Balthier appears to be taking it easy in his room. He's absently scratching behind the ear of a large cat, which seems happy enough to let him do so.]

The new additions here seem rather affectionate, as well as eager in battle. To the people who are new here; I'd advise that you don't get too attached - if previous 'plots' are anything to go by, their visit will be brief.

[He stops scratching behind her ear for a minute, and the cat nudges his hand with her head. he lets out a small chuckle.] Willful little beast, aren't you? [he's amused. Then he appears to remember the feed is on. So he reaches over with his other had, and turns it off.]

I've noticed that. This little one is looking to pick a fight.

No no, those aren't for eating! Here. [He tugs the cloth out of Charmander's mouth.]

I was thinking of taking this one outside for some exercise. Care to join me?

[he was about to decline, when his Persian stood up, stretched, and made it's way to the door.]

It doesn't look like I have much choice in the matter; I think she just agreed for me.

Then I'll meet you at the front door.

[The Charmander is already making his way out of the screen and to the door.]

[He nods in affirmation, and switches off the feed. He's lounged casually against the wall, and the Persian is sat beside him. When the charmander comes into view, however, she moves to sit in front of her master. She was unable to deem whether they were a threat or not, so she'd wait, and see how her master reacted to their presence.]

[When the Charmander sees a rival Pokemon its tail flares up and it sets to growling until Iroh calls it over.]

That isn't necessary. This is a friend.

[The Charmander reacts to Iroh's voice and sidles up next to him.]

I suppose you need a name...

[He nods to Balthier.]

That is a handsome cat you have.

[The persian reacts by raising it's heckles, and growling itself until the charmander stops.

He nods a small greeting back] thank you. That's an interesting little friend you've got yourself.

[the Persian relaxes a little, but not completely dropping her guard, continuing to eye the rival pokemon warily]

I hear the new taller grass outside has more creatures in it. We should proceed with caution.

Of course. I would not want to wander into strange territory uncautiously.

[Iroh opens the door and pokes his head outside.]

You were right about the grass being taller...Come, little lizard.

[But the Charmander is already out the door, slinking through the grass.]

The cat slinks past them, and goes to prowl among the grass.]

It seems that our recent partners have not got the same ideas about the taller grass.

[with a small eyeroll at their pokemon, he ventures forth to follow them]

Did you have a destination in mind, or just wandering until they've had enough?

Just wandering. Anything to get him to stretch his legs and get rid of some of that energy. Slow down!

[Iroh pushes his way through the grass to follow his Charmander.]

What are you looking for, anyway?

[What can only be described as a battle cry comes from somewhere to the right. Balthier doesn't say anything, but immediately goes that way. He comes across the persian getting ready to attack a venus fly trap-type creature (http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/455.shtml).]

I think I may have found what they were looking for.

[he then looks back at the Carnivine] What are you waiting for, Fran? [He didn't realise that he'd dubbed the cat with his friend's name until he said it aloud. He had to wonder what she would make of that if she were here.]

[Iroh blinks when he sees the plant monster.]

Oh my.

[Before he can say anything his Charmander rushes into battle.]

Don't hurt it! It's just a poor wild animal. Oh, just don't hurt it too much.

[Iroh watches the little lizard as it spits up little embers at the plant creature.]

I shall call you Ran, after the great dragon.

I guess you come from a place where the animals in the wild are not to be feared.

[The carvinvine lashes out with thin vines like whips]

They seem to be just as hostile as our were to them.

[and the persian retaliates by attacking as soon as the opportunity arises. Balthier smiles a small smile as it attacks.]

It is not that the animals from my world are not to be feared. I have seen several fearsome beasts in my time. I simply do not wish to harm something that seems to have no ill intentions.

[He watches the two Pokemon attack the Carnveine for a while.]

But perhaps it is just in their nature to fight. If that is the case, who are we to stop them?

No one at all. [he watched the two finish off the Carnivine, and his persian came back to him, demanding his attention, which he gave, before slipping off again into the tall grass.]

[Iroh nods and pats his Charmander on the head as it flounces over to him, smoke still leaking out of its open mouth.]

Very good, Ran.

[Ran follows the Persian into the brush. Iroh follows them, shoving the grass aside and making sure to keep Ran in his eyesight.]

Don't go to far.

[As if it were a child he had to take care of...]

[Judging? Nope; he named his after his best friend. He figures that takes away most of his judging rights.

He pushes the brush aside, following Iroh]

I'd think they can navigate this grass better than we can. They're rather mobile. [He's a little amused]

It does seem kind of sad to let go of them again, but knowing the Author's ways nothing else can be expected.

I can't see where the sense would lie in getting attached, author or not. But they certainly do have a certain charm which could make it very easy to. [he's had allies in and out, with only a few he's been saddened to part with.]

I think they could be excellent partners over the time.

[Especially as his chosen pokemon is a kind of a shark, Ryuutaro is reminded of his beloved partner Pisces, which happens to be a spinning top, but -hey- in his world that's normal]

But speculating about it won't be of much use.

No, it will not. I expect we shan't get the time with them to prove your theory either way.
