[Varon's MP3 player is blaring through the network playing anything from HIM to Front Line Assembly. It must have gone through seven different songs before it stops. A hand reaches into the darkened space of his pocket and covers the screen.]

Eh? I don't remember this thing.

[Varon's eyes widened with curiosity and blinks a few times. He brings the device in close, his baby blue eye now taking over the screen.]

Looks expensive.

[Then a throaty chuckle.]

Hope no one misses it.

[Then a laugh.]

Wonder who's it is. They'll call for it soon, I bet. Better keep it on an' wait who calls.

[He sets it down on the table and puts his ear buds back in. Even if anyone did call, they'll leave a message that it's theirs, right?]

Thanks, really. After working for some bloke that was alive for 10,000 years, not much can surprise me.

[He laughs then pulls out his earbuds so he could hear better.]

So your saying that we've been shanghaied by a sheila?

[Now he's heard it all!]

[Hmh. Should not be this surprising after all the worlds he's seen and heard about.]

We've never really seen her yet. And not to be rude, but I doubt someone as cruel as her could be considered cute.

[He lets out a hearty laugh with his hands on his hips.]

I like you. What's your name or do I just call you Kabuki? Name's Varon or as my old pal Raph used call me, Mellonhead. Either one works but the latter better be in good fun or I might have to go Medieval.

[Of course he's joking.]

[He really reminds Ryuutaro of what people in his world were like. The Kabuki-comment earns Varon an a bit more sarcastic kind of smirk][He lets his fan snap shut]

My name is Ryuutaro Fukami, it's a pleasure to meet you.

[Empty pleasantries, here we go.]

Hey, cool name! Can I call you Ryuu?

[Leave it to Varon to step on toes. *sigh* I swear he's not graceful at all.]

Preferably, no, you can not. I prefer to be adressed properly.

[He opens his fan and smiles again. Consider yourself rejected, Varon.]

[Gotta love culture clashes. He's just going to think you're a little stuck up.]

Eh, suit yourself. So is it Ryuutaro or Fukami that I should address you? I never understood how some of you Japs liked to be called.

[Whoops, another ouch. Racial slurs and a bad first impression really marks him strongly as either ignorant or just plain dumb.]

[~~Well, Ryuutaro is a little stuck up, no harm done with this thought...~~
And really, he's getting a bit offended here. But only a bit. His ego is too big for him to feel small scratching at it]

Ryuutaro will be fine. Thank you for being this understanding.

[Sure, 'Fukami-kun' or something like this would have been more formal and all, but in Ryuutaro's world the kids his age always called themselves by the first name]

Hey, no problem!

[He waves his hand in front of his face as if it meant nothing at all. There's a good reason why Temari thought that Varon was worse than Ryuutaro. He already has her geared up for a fight. Yikes.

Then he grins.]

So, what's this place called anyway? Nice digs for the likes of me but hey, maybe I can get a job or something.

[Well, if Ryuutaro ever finds out Varon is Temari's enemy that might get him some bonus points. As it figures, he and Temari can not stand each other at all, despite all their similarities. Maybe it was just too many of them. ~~Gender-untypical, selfish, arrogant fan-users wanting the same person? Ugh.~~]

We simply call it the Manor. There are not really many proper jobs, but every ability appears to come in handy sooner or later. This place changes like the weather.

[I think that'll become apparent soon enough with the damage done to the garden along with the bruises and cuts all over Varon in his third post...which should be edited to show this.

Varon's face falls at the name.]

Kinda bland, dontcha think?

[Then he brightens up again.]

Oh well, not like I have any other place to be.

You, too? And here I was thinking I was unusual for not having any place I need to return to soon.

And I don't think a more spectacular name would suit the Manor. As spectacular as this place might be in itself, it would be a mistake to announce it like something positive.

[If he was drinking something, he would have nearly choked on it from the sound of what Ryuutaro just said.]

Seriously!? The place is that bad?

[Then a shrug.]

Oh well, gotta make the most of it, I suppose.

It can be quite horrible at times. Most of the time, actually. The Author's sense of humor would best be descriped as twisted.

[And yet he could not help but accept his existence over here quite well. He had Hayato, he had places to see and he did not really want to think about leaving. It was an odd state of mind to be in]

Oh! Sounds like working for my old boss again.

[Flatly, resting his chin in his hand.]

Terrific.

Your old boss? Might I ask what he was like?

[Because maybe they had a lot more in common than it appeared to be]

[A shrug and a disinterested look, he'll answer the question since he's not much for holding anything back.]

You know, the typical megalomaniac that thinks that destroying-the-world-is-the-best-way-to-save-it type. This guy was from Atlantis and said that he was 10,000 years old. I gotta say, he didn't look half bad for a stiff. I gotta admit, he suckered me in to thinking that I was one of the chosen ones to help cleanse the world or some junk like that.

I was used, chewed up and spat out and I'm not going back.

[Ryuutaro blinks. That sounded just a lot like the Dark Nebula, he had been working for, exept a few things like the Atlantis thing.]

I know what you're talking about.

[The end of his career in the organization had been less then graceful after all. But he was not sure he really wanted to talk about it to a stranger. Only Hayato even knew so far. But it had just slipped out, because this aspect of them seemed really similiar]

[With the similarities aside, Varon only gave out what he felt was pertinent at this time to answer the question. Any more would peg him as something far worse than what he appears before Ryuutaro.]

That's good. At least I know I'm not just some misunderstood bloke without a future.

[Best to leave the rest for another time if he can help it.]

He took three of us in.

We were five. Well, the organization in itself was big, but those were the ones I had more contact with.

[He did not count Yuu and Tsubasa. They were... different in some ways. They weren't the ones he had seen getting thrown away, like he did with Tobio, Watarigani, Dan and Reiki. He'd seen them on the ground, helped carrying them away from the fight scene. They were far from being his friends, but that was a sight he would not ever be able to forget.

As for the stories... Well, Tobio and him had been together when it happened.]

But there's always a future. Fate does things for a reason. Moving on does not look easy, but there's always the hand of the future to guide everyone.

[It sounded empty to his own ears. Those words where what he always believed in, his life, his everything. But ever since the Manor, since Fate had let Hayato die, he had been questioning things over and over. At least he could say it rather conveniently now and without hurting too much]

I guess so. I never really banked much on it since I learned at an early age to live day by day.

[He leans back on the couch with his feet propped up on the arm, laying lengthwise on the furniture piece.]

Guess there's no turning back now. I'm here so that means something, right?

It has to.

You see, when you're like me, then that is what you learn first.

[Blink]

You mean, living day by day or not turning back?

No, that things have to mean something. Though I suppose you could word it with no turning back as well.
Living in the past is no use, the future is what is waiting for us.

I get that part. What I don't get is why you're so certain that I'll have a worthy future. You seein' something that I don't see yet?
