[The feed opens to reveal Mary in white apron and what looks like a blue shirt...yes~ She's in the kitchen and has been so all night.]

I know that a lot of us are separated from our families right now, so I would like to invite everyone to the parlor for a Mothers Day brunch.

Even if you're not a parent, I thought everyone could use the chance to just unwind and relax a bit from the previous plot.

[Hope you're good at dealing with clueless brats, Mary. Like this one's staring out of the screen right now. While there's still a trace of the ever-present frown on Kanda's face, he mostly just looks a little taken aback, wide-eyed like a kid seeing his daddy stuff himself into Santa's jacket for the first time.]

...what's Mother's Day?

[What's Mothers Day? It seems a little sad that he doesn't have it where he's from.]

It's a day for celebrating mothers.

Usually it involves gifts or taking that mothers in your life out to eat and letting them know just how much they mean to you.

Ah.

[He's not entirely sure what's the point, since you shouldn't need a specific day to care if the person's actually important, but this isn't the first time he hears about this kind of a holiday, so he doesn't question it.]

[At least he knows what a mother is, yeah? What he's been told, at least. His own mother is a cylinder shaped pond, however, so taking it out to eat isn't going to work. Besides, that facility has been completely destroyed, so it's not like he could just drop a flower in it either.]

[Not that he would, dammit, the crazy General is much more of family than he would have ever wanted to have.]

I see.

[What else is he supposed to say?]

Yeah...I just thought that we could all use a break.

It doesn't matter if your mother or even your kids are here as far as I'm concerned. Truth be told, it was just an excuse to have a party. After all the stress we've been under, I figured it would be nice if we could all just relax and talk.

[Kanda hates parties so he's not really sure how it is supposed to help with stress. The idea of having a break is nice enough, though, and really, the woman's intentions seem for the best. Maybe that's why he actually says it out aloud;]

I don't think I have one.

[Pause. Shrugs casually.]

But it's a good idea.

[No mother? She was tempted to question him, but that honestly seemed a little intrusive. ...So, she'll just have to mother him herself.]

I'm glad you think so. And really, it's just going to be a quiet affair.

But even if you decide to not come, I'll be storing the leftovers in the kitchen, you can feel free to help yourself to anything you want.

[It would have been intrusive, yes. Wait, what? He never said he wanted one! Is it even supposed to be a good thing?]

[...you're already doing well for a Kanda mom, though. He blinks, actually looking a little amazed by the prospect of just coming in on his own to get some food. Why, you.]

...right.

[She can't help it. Mothering is what she does~.]

You're not a talkative one, are you~?

[She's not meaning to be teasing, it's just kind of happening.]

[It's really sweet! Even if Kanda isn't going to appreciate being parented. Then again, Tiedoll grew on him over time, so who knows. In small doses everything is good.]

[Looks down at the screen.]

...a man's worth is defined by his actions.

That's true...but there are other ways to measure a mans worth.

[What was it with her and being drawn to men like this...and not always in a romantic way. Her sons were similar, her friends, her husband...Was it just a man thing? Either way, she needed to find a way to get him to lighten up.]

If there's ever anything special you want prepared, you just have to let me know.

[There might be, but Kanda doesn't think it's as important. And who knows... it shouldn't be a simple man thing, though, because plenty of his, er, comrades seem to be at least more open and cheerful than he is. He's not really the only one like this either, though, so maybe it all depends on the type.]

[He even blinks a little in surprise and forgets to be suspicious of such an offer from... well, mostly a stranger, even if they've met a few times before in the Manor.]

...can you make soba?

[She hated to just tell him no. Especially since he seemed to be opening up a little bit to her.]

If you give me a little time, I'm sure I can find a book in the library that will tell me. ...You may have to try it to tell me if it's correct though.

[And wow, she was actually doing a relatively good job in making him do that. He pouts for a moment, but then apparently decides he can go to a compromise.]

A kind of noodles.

[He'll really take pretty much any kind which isn't a straight Italian pasta, though. Noodles are noodles! Adds a little hopefully;]

With mustard.

[Someone likes it hot -- i mean. Spicy. Yeah. Good thing that despite of being terrible at cooking, this is the one recipe he actually knows.]
