[Open/In Person]

[This is not Thairos. For one thing, it's raining. She practically had to fight to get the normal storms to come to Thairos. For another, she woke up in what seems to be an inn that is far more opulent than even her famous teacher would stay at. Also, the lighting here is exceedingly odd.]

[There's very little chance she could have gotten kidnapped (and to what end, especially if she's unbound and has nobody watching her. So Tris is going to go out and see if she can't find the lay of this strange city. This starts with her keeping the rain off of her and walking out of the hotel. She is On A Mission To Explore This Place, and she is Not Happy about it.]

[Congrats, Paris, you now have one grumpy, confused, red-headed weather witch standing under what appears to be an invisible glass dome that sheds the rain, and she's stalking your streets like she's mad at you! Which she kind of is.]

[And then, there is a derp moment.] Do you want me to tag along or hang around or something? I mean, I'm more familiar with a lot of this stuff, although these things can call up a map, so... [Awkward moment of fail is awkward.]

[...You are the first person that's met him in human form besides to some extent Sebastian that was not family, Mina and family, or "directly involved with the mess" that's been relatively decent to him. This is unusual.] Alright - I uh, don't know where you came from but I'll follow.

[identity profile] last-dracula.livejournal.com 2010-11-13 10:14 am (UTC)(link)
Uh- right. [He's going to try to keep to that, although it'll be a little awkward - trying to stay mostly in front of her and predict which way she's going.] Thanks for the rain-thing. [He's cautiously shaking out the umbrella and closing it for now.]

[identity profile] last-dracula.livejournal.com 2010-11-13 10:24 am (UTC)(link)
I guess not. [He was looking up at the shield, and watching the rain slide off it.] Magic really isn't very common where I'm from; it's rare enough that a lot of people who aren't directly involved in something dealing with it, don't believe it exists.

[identity profile] last-dracula.livejournal.com 2010-11-13 10:32 am (UTC)(link)
[He's nodding thoughtfully at that.] I'm not sure how it went for Yoko and Mina - but they're both from families where it runs in the family, so as far as I know they were raised with it. I don't really know how it works for mages that aren't in families like that; I've had my plate a bit full just trying to keep track of the vampires and demons and all the rest of the crazy.

[identity profile] last-dracula.livejournal.com 2010-11-13 10:42 am (UTC)(link)
[There is a very confused blink as this processes, and he's trying very hard not to cracked-nervous laugh at the "demons are real" comment.] Very, very real. A cult that summons them is what triggered my powers spiking back up again, and they've wiped out a small town.

And uh. Vampires are - basically undead? They used to be human, but were brought back by another vampire. They feed on blood, and can get pretty powerful and very dangerous; there's only a few things that can hurt them - sunlight weakens them, holy water and blessed relics can ward them off or hurt them if the person using it's powerful enough, and some blessed weapons can do it.

[you are going to have such a special time with Sebastian.] It's kind-of funny, with what I've dealt with, to think of a world where magic's known and more common but demons AREN'T real. [His voice drops to a grumble]

[identity profile] last-dracula.livejournal.com 2010-11-13 11:04 am (UTC)(link)
If this one is close enough of a parallel to ours, there aren't enough mages around to do things like that very easily; I think the Hakuba shrine's protected, but that's Mina's family's place and it's old and has history. [...And was one of the few holy ground places he was perfectly comfortable in, but that probably had to do with some quirk of shinto.]

And I've had a LOT of very strange and very unpleasant demons try to kill me. I've only ever dealt with a few that weren't a complete pain to deal with, and those were either small bound familiars or - weird. [He still wasn't sure how to classify Sebastian.]

[identity profile] last-dracula.livejournal.com 2010-11-13 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yeeeah. We ... don't have anything that organized; not enough mages for it.

[...He's a derp, but he's not oblivious all the time.] Eh, at least you get to have it proved false. [Yep. And a revolving door! Aren't those wonderful?]

[identity profile] last-dracula.livejournal.com 2010-11-13 11:16 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yeah, but. You're not anything like a demon. [And he smiles back over his shoulder, although there's a little bit of a pained twitch behind it.]

[He's also heading to the elevator instead of the stairs, and it takes him a second to think about that.] Which floor was your room on?

[identity profile] last-dracula.livejournal.com 2010-11-13 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
It's an elevator. It's perfectly safe; it carries people between floors. [And he's pushing the "up" button, and waiting for it to ding; there's a small, uncomfortable pause.]

I was supposed to be the reincarnation of something powerful and terrible. I refused, and it worked, somehow, and I thought it'd been over. That cult I mentioned? Worshipped that darkness, and they weren't happy I didn't bring it back into the world, so they wiped out that town to lure me out there so that either one of their lackeys with some potential could kill me and claim that power, or so that they could push me over the edge and force me to turn into that. [And he's going to be ... toying with an omamori he'd had hidden under his shirt, and definitely a bit more distant and uncomfortable, until the door dings and opens - he's stepping in and holding the door for Tris.] Don't worry, it's safe.

[identity profile] last-dracula.livejournal.com 2010-11-13 11:34 am (UTC)(link)
Once he's inside and he's pushed the button for the top floor, he's leaning against the wall and toying with the omamori again. Yay awkward silence.] That's - what I meant earlier, about how if I lost control you'd know. If you ever see me and I'm completely not me... [He trails off for a minute with a vague handwave.] I don't want to be left like that.
