[She hesitates before answering; it could have been an innocuous question, but something about him seemed...off]

[Not wanting him to actually come in her room, she gets up and decides to wait for him outside in the hallway]

_{[John exits his room, and nearly runs into her.]}

[Equally nearly bumping into him, Elphaba takes a step or two back, before switching her blackberry off and dropping it into her pocket. Flicking her hazel eyes over the deadpan man in front of her, she narrows them a little]

So, you wanted to talk..?

_{[John hesitates. She's much prettier in person. He crosses his arms.]}

Are you feeling?

_{[This was too easy, there was no way she would answer truthfully but for some reason he hoped he would be wrong about her law-breaking.]}

[She looks at him in curiousity]

..Am I feeling? What do you mean?

_{[John looks at her intensely, getting right in her face, hands at his sides now.]}

Do. You. Feel.

[Putting a hand on his chest, she pushes him back a little, frowning]

If you mean in general, yes I do - of course I do. Now back up a little will you..?

_{[John grabs her wrist and pulls his gun on her.]}

Either you are compliant or I kill you. Where are you hiding your contraband?

[--!!]

[However, she abruptly stops trying to free herself when she see's the weapon. Although they didn't have them in Oz, and although she wasn't familiar with what exactly they did, she'd seen people in the Manor use them. Glancing quickly from him, to the gun and back again, Elphaba tries to stay calm]

Fine, fine, I'll do whatever you want okay? Just, calm down for a second-!

_{[Her reaction surprises him...in her fear she chose not to fight. He was confused. Slowly he releases her wrist, but does not lower his gun.]}

Why do you choose to feel such fear and anger? Have you no thought for your fellow man?

[Covering her wrist with her other hand, she brings them both up to her chest, her eyes still torn between him and the gun]

I-I don't choose to feel things..they're a reflex - generally if you pull a gun on someone they tend to react badly

['Fellow man'?]

What do you mean, 'my fellow man'? What are you talking about?

All of the conflict, pain and hurt in the world comes from the human capacity for emotion.

_{[John reholsters the gun and fishes in his pocket for a small vial of amber liquid.]}

This prevents all of that.

But, humans are social creatures - we're designed to feel things, to react and express our emotions

[Glad she was no longer at gunpoint, Elphaba relaxes a little, although she still keeps her hands up as a subconcious measure of keeping space between them]

..What is that?

_{[John looked at her perplexed. How was it possible for her to feel threatened, but not aggressive?]}

It's called Prozium. It suppresses human emotion. This is my dosage for tomorrow. I only have one more and I need to find the nearest Equilibrium to obtain more.

_{[He found himself staring at her, fascinated.]}

[Elphaba just sort of...stares back, awkwardly glancing away now and then]

Equilibrium..? I've never heard of something like that, and I'm pretty sure there isn't one here

_{[Something about the sound of that chilled him and he did not like it. Perhaps his dose of Prozium was beginning to wear off... He slumped away from her, a dignified look of resignation on his face.]}

So I'm just supposed to sit here and let this happen to me...allow myself to fail this test. Become an offender..

[Crossing her arms, she decided to leave the question about how the liquid stuff suppressed emotion..]

An 'offender'? What is that..?

Sense offense...the crime of feeling.

[Frowning]

'Feeling' isn't a crime - how can it be?

All of the wars and crime and hurt in the world is caused by the human capacity for emotion. Happiness, joy...love. Its a small price to pay for complete peace.

_{[He looked at the floor, unwilling to look her in the eye. He thought for a moment that he was feeling as well, but he couldn't be certain. Finally he raised his eyes to hers, frowning slightly.]}

[The frown ceases somewhat]

That's...actually quite sad...you really believe that's true?

We need to feel things; it's our ability to feel and rationalise thoughts and emotions that make us human. Without feelings, we're just..organic machines
