{14th Calculation} Working to soften the blow [In person]

[Gene knows that there are some things that need work in person and one thing he needed to do was acclimate Jake to how his device works and how to read the maps. Gene had a lot of work to do and he didn't have enough time in the day to get it all done. The school still needed attention but his main priority was getting the new residents settled in despite the chaos.

He knocks on Jake's door and waits patiently.]

Sometimes. People in general here can and will do what is necessary to survive. If it means to gather information, they'll do it. So far, it's been only once that it happened.

Chaos. You see, we have this guy in our residency roster. He's not known for being nice. His name is John Dillinger. He's real and he's mean. So far, he hasn't done anything to warrant any real trouble but there were people hacking the network right and left to try to track the guy. Needless to say, the only thing he really did was rob banks. He got bored when he wasn't being chased and just...stopped.

But that's not the only incident. There was a serial killer out and about and he was killing people at random. Of all times, and this is really going to sound strange, even the bad guys were helping out. Well, those that had any scruples about their own best interests, that is. The murders were grisly and the people of the Manor were really scared. Then right in the middle of the investigation there was this riot. It started on the 25th of January and didn't end until the 29th, I think.

It impeded the investigation but in a lot of ways, it saved lives too. At least we knew that the people were alive that were involved in the riots weren't the ones that were involved in the murders.

["Dillinger"? Wasn't that the name of a similar criminal from the 20th century? Jake says nothing and instead goes down a different route.]
