Diary Page 1 - Taro Kagami [Audio]
MIURA-KUN, STOP! I DID IT! I WROTE THEIR-
[pause]
...names? [Taro finds himself confronted not with a boy his own age and not with a cramped bedroom but instead with a forest. Trees everywhere, and no one beside him.] ....Miura-kun?
[what happened? Had Miura actually finished writing his name? Is he dead? Is this what death is like?]
Oh no... [Hastily he throws open the notebook that had been clutched in his hands and he looks inside. There are names written neatly in a row. The detectives. The students. The newsanchors and then... Taro heaves a sigh of relief and slumps to the ground.
His own name is still unfinished. So this is not death
But then....
The fear is quick to come back for an entirely new reason and Taro hastily jumps back up, notebook clutched to his chest like a lifeline]
Where am I??? [Okay. okay...Don't panic.. He looks around and at long last notices the blackberry and hastily he grabs for it. Its not his. And whoever the owner is might get mad at him for using it, but he's desperate, and it is better to beg for forgiveness than to ask permission.]
[[Audio]]
Umm...hello? Is anyone there? I don't know where I am. [He starts with a shaky voice, trying to steady himself as he holds the notebook secure under his arm.] Am I still in Japan?
I need to speak to the police. Its an emergency!
Video
From the request for the police, Light surmises that this newcomer obviously did not have any kind of innate supernatural ability. But there's something almost uncomfortably familiar about this broadcast. Naomi Misora had made a similar message upon arrival, hadn't she? Well, as this kid is obviously not Misora, Light writes off the cognitive association as meaningless; he probably thought he had been kidnapped. This would be a joy to explain. He clicks on the video. ]
I know this is unusual, but try to stay calm. You aren't in any immediate danger.
Re: Video
he's really hopingSwallowing awkwardly he responds, still in audio. Just like with the detectives who had appeared at his house, Taro doesn't know this man's intentions - even if he seems helpful. He needs to play it safe until he can be sure.]
Not in danger? Thats g-good [He's awkward right off the bat, failing in his attempt remain calm. He tries clearing his throat.] ...But thats not exactly why I need to talk to the police. I need to tell them something right away.
no subject
At the very least, Light is now aware that his working theory has been disproved. If the kid--no, his awkward jumpy tone had not been lost on Light--wasn't trying report a kidnapping, but something else. The way the sentiment had been phrased too, "I need to tell them something right away" coupled with the way he had brushed aside Light's attempt at reassurance. Obviously something important. More important inquiring after his whereabouts even.
He narrows his eyes slightly as he contemplates this. The question is, is the "what" of this itself important? From the sounds of it, everything points to a resounding 'no.' It's unlikely that whatever information he has is even relevant to the daily life of the Manor's inhabitants. And even if it did? The Manor itself lacks any organized jurisdiction with which to act upon said information. Dually worthless, in essence.
...And besides, just what the hell could a kid have to say? On a deeper level, Light is disturbed by the depth of his boredom that he would ruminate over this at all. Casually switching to Japanese: ]
I see. I may not be a police officer here, but I used to work with the NPA back home. [Which, technically speaking isn't untrue.] Maybe I can help you.
[Still audio]
But due to his excitement - rather - his high expectations given his excellent luck at running into this man, Taro starts to get a little sloppy in how guarded he should be.]
Really?? Then...then maybe you heard about all of those heart attacks? [Hopeful]
reaction 1/2
Heart attacks.
Ha, ha. Strange coincidence. What with the sudden tightness in Light's chest, that's almost what he feels like he's going through right now.
Thoughts flash through his head at a million miles a minute, punctuated by the occasional unproductively infantile bursts of rage directed not at the boy, but at the Author, for seemingly bringing another one from his world.]
video; locked
No.
Light stops mid thought. He's thinking far too many steps ahead based on little supportive evidence. The mention of heart attacks had simply caused him to overreact, to over-think: A hair trigger.
More than likely, the boy meant to call the NPA with some bogus theory on Kira's means of killing. Calm. They must have received those kinds of calls everyday from conspiracy theorists back when the NPA was still the official headquarters for the Kira case. But even so, Light's throat feels dry. Locking the feed, he swallows then seamlessly transitions into concern. ]
I have. You're referring to the Kira case, correct?
Re: video; locked
...Come to think of it, Ryuk had dropped more than one notebook, but right before he ended up in this place Taro had been trying to stop him from writing the names....had he failed?]
I mean the heart attacks with the 5 students...and the 2 detectives. [That is public news, he can recount that without getting himself into too much trouble, right?]
video; locked amg sorry for the tl;dr
[Light's brow furrows in concentration. This isn't making a modicum of sense. There had never been a point in time in which Kira had judged--rightfully judged--anyone but criminals, and the fools trying to stop him. Evil, in other words. Never ordinary students. Additionally the body count Taro is giving is far too specific. Seven victims- why seven? It couldn't possibly be the Kira case-- the numbers are too low, the victims don't match. But still. Heart attacks. That's not as easily ignorable. A fourth Kira then? Perhaps from the future? The damn Shinigami did have a habit of turning up with their Death Notes when they were not welcomed; Rem is.... was the perfect example of that.
But, not even that explanation made sense. Even if it had been a fourth Kira from the future, not Light, not Misa, not Higuchi, then those that died would have been added to the list of Kira's victims.
And therein lay the problem, if this person isn't part of Light's future, or even a part of Light's past-- he couldn't have been, of all people, L would have mentioned the familiarity of the case-- then just where did this boy's story fit into this continuum?
Light takes a deep breath to clear his thoughts.
The answer is simple enough: He couldn't. He had to be from another world. Perhaps a parallel one, with eerie similarities to Light's own. It's not beyond the Author to do this either.
Heart attacks. In Japan. One might have been a coincidence, but seven? It couldn't be.
Every explanation Light generates stubbornly insists on gravitating towards the known familiar causes: Shinigami. Death Notes. But if he is to keep his assumption that this boy is not from the same world, it would be ridiculous to be so narrow minded.]
I've... heard of something like that, yes. Are you saying that you have information that would lead to the resolution of the case?
SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONGGGG *SOB*
[Taro swallows awkwardly. He is entirely innocent to the inner-workings of this person's head and there is no reason for him to assume that what looks to be a fine upstanding Japanese man would have anything other than good intentions, and little by little Taro is giving in to the more childish tendency to get too comfortable around strangers]
So. You said you work with the police, right?
[Audio/Private] - voice is also scrambled b/c he can
That is, until the public feed suddenly comes to an abrupt halt. How annoying.]
There are no police here. Therefore I highly advise against trusting anyone with sensitive information.
[Sure Near could lie about being part of the police, but it would be far too easily disproved.]
That said, I have heard about the heart attacks.
[That's all. He's waiting to hear what the kid has to say first.]

Re: [Audio]
Thank you but...i really have to talk to a policeman...one from Japan.

Re: [Audio]
I don't know....[He finally murmurs] Its very important that i speak to the police about a very specific case.

Re: [Audio]
[Audio]
Hullo! I'm not the police- but I'm better than that. I'm the Doctor.
Re: [Audio]
[Audio]
Now then- I think the first thing I should tell you is that, no, you're not in Japan anymore. Next is that you probably-very likely, actually, aren't even in your universe. Bit of a scary thought really but not near as scary as the sudden realization that you've been kidnapped.
Re: [Audio]
A man who refers to himself as "THE Doctor" (as apparently 'a' was incorrect) is now telling him that he is neither in Japan or even Earth as it were....
This situation does NOT put him at ease, and its not the "not in your universe" rhetoric that concerns him the most.]
Then where are you from?
[Whether or not he thinks this man is dangerous rests on the man's next answer,]

Re: [Audio] ACK SORRY FOR LATE RESPONSE!!!
Well you don't exactly look like an alien....you know?
video;
[ Here is Misa. A cute idol whose age is difficult to guess with just one look. ]
Well... Misa is not the police but she can help.
We've been kidnapped from our worlds by a crazy otaku! She won't let us go home until she wants us to. What else do you want to know?
[Audio]
...um...an Otaku? [How is he even supposed to try and take that seriously? Was she picking on him? It wouldn't be the first time.]
[Audio]
Yes. And Misa is very serious too.
So there is no need to call the police--- what is your name? My name is Misa Amane. You can call me Misamisa!
Re: [Audio]
Wouldn't a crazy otaku kidnapping people be a good reason to call the police? [Even without the death note it would seem like a reason to be concerned.]
[Audio]
But they can't really take you back home though.
