Diary Page 1 - Taro Kagami [Audio]
MIURA-KUN, STOP! I DID IT! I WROTE THEIR-
[pause]
...names? [Taro finds himself confronted not with a boy his own age and not with a cramped bedroom but instead with a forest. Trees everywhere, and no one beside him.] ....Miura-kun?
[what happened? Had Miura actually finished writing his name? Is he dead? Is this what death is like?]
Oh no... [Hastily he throws open the notebook that had been clutched in his hands and he looks inside. There are names written neatly in a row. The detectives. The students. The newsanchors and then... Taro heaves a sigh of relief and slumps to the ground.
His own name is still unfinished. So this is not death
But then....
The fear is quick to come back for an entirely new reason and Taro hastily jumps back up, notebook clutched to his chest like a lifeline]
Where am I??? [Okay. okay...Don't panic.. He looks around and at long last notices the blackberry and hastily he grabs for it. Its not his. And whoever the owner is might get mad at him for using it, but he's desperate, and it is better to beg for forgiveness than to ask permission.]
[[Audio]]
Umm...hello? Is anyone there? I don't know where I am. [He starts with a shaky voice, trying to steady himself as he holds the notebook secure under his arm.] Am I still in Japan?
I need to speak to the police. Its an emergency!
video; locked amg sorry for the tl;dr
[Light's brow furrows in concentration. This isn't making a modicum of sense. There had never been a point in time in which Kira had judged--rightfully judged--anyone but criminals, and the fools trying to stop him. Evil, in other words. Never ordinary students. Additionally the body count Taro is giving is far too specific. Seven victims- why seven? It couldn't possibly be the Kira case-- the numbers are too low, the victims don't match. But still. Heart attacks. That's not as easily ignorable. A fourth Kira then? Perhaps from the future? The damn Shinigami did have a habit of turning up with their Death Notes when they were not welcomed; Rem is.... was the perfect example of that.
But, not even that explanation made sense. Even if it had been a fourth Kira from the future, not Light, not Misa, not Higuchi, then those that died would have been added to the list of Kira's victims.
And therein lay the problem, if this person isn't part of Light's future, or even a part of Light's past-- he couldn't have been, of all people, L would have mentioned the familiarity of the case-- then just where did this boy's story fit into this continuum?
Light takes a deep breath to clear his thoughts.
The answer is simple enough: He couldn't. He had to be from another world. Perhaps a parallel one, with eerie similarities to Light's own. It's not beyond the Author to do this either.
Heart attacks. In Japan. One might have been a coincidence, but seven? It couldn't be.
Every explanation Light generates stubbornly insists on gravitating towards the known familiar causes: Shinigami. Death Notes. But if he is to keep his assumption that this boy is not from the same world, it would be ridiculous to be so narrow minded.]
I've... heard of something like that, yes. Are you saying that you have information that would lead to the resolution of the case?
SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONGGGG *SOB*
[Taro swallows awkwardly. He is entirely innocent to the inner-workings of this person's head and there is no reason for him to assume that what looks to be a fine upstanding Japanese man would have anything other than good intentions, and little by little Taro is giving in to the more childish tendency to get too comfortable around strangers]
So. You said you work with the police, right?
