17th bomb || Hayato Gokudera || [in person]

[Well, naturally Hayato was notoriously terrible with children, and with his condition his patience was stretched even thinner then usual. It probably took all of ten minutes of being in the room with the kid before he got fed up with it and tried to throw his shoe at it , so of course Hayato had been baby-ified like the rest of the bad mommy's out there.

And his child self had some serious business to take care of! After bothering about several people with his child nonsense he finally thought to get practicing for his upcoming piano recital! Hoping that if he was good enough, maybe he wouldn't have to eat his sister's cookies again...

So Hayato had found the music room and plopped himself down to play the first piece he could find. Of course he's no professional, he messes up here and there, but considering his age and the complexity of the piece he's rather gifted. Anyone in the general vicinity of the music room is free to come listen, and bother him.]

[It's been a repeated lesson that's been drilled into Gaara's brain that if he makes his appearance known, people stop playing and run away. Because he kind of likes this music, he listens as quietly and unobtrusively as he can from the doorway, though when he accidentally leans against the door, it creaks audibly.]

[The creaking catches his attention and he pauses to turn around. It was someone his age! He smiles, tilting his head a little curiously. He was used to giving performances, but people were usually closer!]

Hi! What are you doing way over there?

[Oh no. Gaara was seen, but... this boy isn't afraid? Gaara takes a half step away from the door, but still keeps his distance. Though he really wants to go try playing on the thing that made such pretty noises.]

Sorry.

[Awkward foot shuffle.]

I didn't mean to bother you... I- I can leave you alone!

[Gokudera giggles, what a funny shy boy!]

It's okay! I'm used to playing in front of people! But it's probably easier to hear if you're in here!

[This is the complete opposite of what treatment Gaara is used to receiving at Sunagakure, and it's with a guilty pang on Yashamaru's behalf that Gaara has to admit that he almost... doesn't want to go back. Maybe if he could find a way to bring Yashamaru here...? He beams as he moves closer to the boy.]

Okay! ...I've never seen that before... [Pointing at the sound generating thing.] What is it called? It makes such pretty noises...

[He looks surprised for a moment. He's never seen a piano? It wasn't exactly an uncommon instrument. How sad. It was such a beautiful instrument.]

It's called a piano, you've never seen one before?

[Gokudera swirls around on the bench so he's facing gaara, swinging his legs cheerfully]

It's an instrument! Want me to show you how to play it?

Pi..a...no? [He tries out the word experimentally, then shakes his head.] I've never heard of one before...

[He gives the side of the piano an experimental prod, looking slightly disappointed that no, it did not make a sound when he did it. He brightens up however, when Hayato offers to teach him.]

Okay!

[Gokudera crawls to the edge of the bench and holds his hand out to help Gaara up onto it, since, well it could be kind of tricky]

Here! My name is Hayato! What's yours?

[Almost as though Gaara doesn't see it, he ignores the extended hand and pulls himself up onto the piano bench. Self reliance is a message they teach early in Sunagakure; it's learned even earlier when one earns the title of village monster.]

My name is...

[Slight pause. Would his name scare this person too? He looks wistfully at the piano and back to Hayato.]

...Gaara.

It's nice to meet you Gaara! I've never heard a name like that before! You must not be from Italy!

[Hayato holds his hands over the piano keys in proper form]

Okay so the first thing you need to do when playing the piano is hold your hands out like this! You need to make sure your hands don't go over your wrists too much.

[Immeasurably grateful that once again his name and reputation goes unrecognized, Gaara begins to slowly let his guard down.]

Italy...?

[Gaara repeats curiously as he mimics Hayato's motions exactly.]

I've never heard of a place like that.... I'm from Sunagakure. Like this?

Uh huh! You can always find Italy on a map because it looks like boot! I come from an island next to the boot![he giggles] That's how I remember!

[Hayato nods]

Uh-huh! Just like that! Now try this!

[Hayato plays a few notes in a simple melody then looks to Gaara]

Now you try!

[Hayato's explanation continues to go straight over Gaara's head, but he nods in assent with the silent resolution to ask Yashamaru about boot shaped countries when he found him later. When Gokudera announces it is Gaara's turn to try, he blanches slightly and then timidly presses the keys. On so many occasions he'd been referred to as the village's failed weapon; he didn't want to fail at this too. Wearing a look of intense concentration, it's more than obvious that Gaara's not really enjoying the music so much as he is going through a cycle of motions.]

... Am I doing this correctly?

[Hayato smiles and laughs]

Uh-huh! You're doing really good! But you don't need to look so serious! You look like my Papa! He looks like this all the time!

[And Hayato puts on the grumpiest face, pulling his cheeks down with his hands to emphasize the grump]
