Teru Mikami ~21~ Reversal [Accidental Video -> Voice / In Person]

[This boy looks a lot like the local prosecutor. Just that he is fifteen and... crying. Nobody here has ever seen Mikami cry before. It's not so much crying as just tears running down his face. There is no sound like a sob though, as he looks up and around, recognizing that this isn't his mother's funeral anymore. He stares in shock, his eyes widen and then he takes his glasses up and wipes away the tears.
Another moment passes and then he notices the Blackberry and the fact that it's recording. Quickly he works his way through the buttons, changing to voice]

E-excuse me? Is this... can anybody here me? Where am I?

[Teru doesn't want to accept such a reality, though. Things that aren't possible shouldn't exist, they couldn't exist. And yet he was here.]

My name is Teru Mikami.

[But saying his name is easy. Teru watches Light carefully, scanning him for what kind of a person he might be. It had become just such a habit with him. And he'd gotten quite good at figuring the unrighteous ones out. The way they walked and talked... he could tell them by that.
But this boy seemed alright.]

And I'm sure I exist, but it would be possible for me to imagine you up, too. But you're right, assuming such things doesn't get us anywhere and isn't exactly polite. This all feels real after all.

[Ugh. And that was pretty much terrifying, but even though he seems nervous, he doesn't outright show any fear]

It does feel oddly like reality...

[Light trails off, evidently pondering this silently. But it's as Light thought, the boy is Japanese after all. Though, now that they've been talking for a little longer, Light realizes Mikami is a little older than what he had first assumed. Silent mental correction made, a routine pleasantry follows easily. He's done it all his life.]

It's nice to meet you. [A slight, polite inclination of his head. Awkward as that gesture is over the phone, it's a familiar one. Presumably for the both of them.] My name is Light. Light Yagami.

What do you think is going on?

The pleasure is all mine.

[Mikami bows his head as well, only a tiny bit deeper than Light did, because he's the older one as it seems. Fullfilling this routine of ettiquette feels good. Teru needs all familiarity he can get to cling to.]

I'm not sure... One moment I was at... [He pauses] I was somewhere else and then I my location just changed. It doesn't make any sense.
Are you in a similar situation?

[The pause doesn't go missed, but save for the slightest quirk of his brow, Light doesn't comment on it. Not directly anyway. He nods.]

Something like that. The last thing I remember is sleeping in my bedroom. It's.. a little strange actually, the room I woke up in, isn't so different from my room back home in Tokyo. The implications of that...

[A slight frown. Stalker seems to be one likely explanation, but it's unsettling. Even his clothes are here.]

Anyway, I'm guessing that isn't exactly what happened to you?

Only in the basics... The room I woke up in isn't mine, but it looks as if it could be designed for me as they were a lot of law books.

And I didn't sleep before I got here. I just disappeared from the graveyard...

[He looks down on the ground. It's still so hard to believe for him. To be here. But then again, maybe not believing in it would be the right thing. There was no way this was reality after all]

[There's a long silence. It's mostly apologetic on Light's part for what he had assumed about Mikami. He hadn't thought about that possibility. Though it was a little too far removed for him to think about (who kidnaps people from graveyards?), he feels genuinely awful for having made the initial assumption at all.]

...I'm sorry for your loss.

[He isn't sure what else to say. Pleasantries are a nice fall back if only for that reason. But this time it is sincere.]

[Teru looks up again and shakes his head. He's heard this countless times today already. And one more didn't make it better. He doesn't even know how to feel about those words. 'Loss'... It hadn't really been a loss anymore]

No, it's fine.

Even so, the timing was rather cruel.

[If "it's fine" is an indication that Mikami wants to end that particular talk, Light has no problems with that. Light himself isn't comfortable with such a conversation. Especially with a stranger. But the apologetic expression on Light's face lingers for a few more moments before he speaks again.]

You said that the room could have been designed for you? You're interested in law?

[Teru nods, glad to see the sorry look on Light's face finally leave. He couldn't take anymore of those, not when he hadn't properly figured out how to feel himself. It was like they were trying to force it upon him to take it as a tragedy. Of course he was sad, but he just couldn't help thinking of those other boys who died and of what they'd used to do. And his mother had been tolerating that, in her own way... He still was afraid of coming home into an empty flat though]

Yes, I am. I aim to be a prosecutor when I'm done with school and university.

[It's a little bit of a surprise. Not a lot of people Light knows want to go into law enforcement. Most of his peers are more interested in celebrities and if not celebrities, then pornography. It's a world Light can't connect with nor does he want to. His eyes are on the bigger picture. Goals. Destinies.]

Ah, really? [The smile comes through easily. Genuinely, even.] Why is that?

[It felt a little weird to be asked this, especially in a situation like this. But it had be some time in general since a stranger had exclaimed any sort of interest in his thoughts.]

There is so much evil in the world, I want to be able to do something against it.

[Light doesn't disagree with the sentiment. Not even a little. But the phrasing is so serious, so... heavy sounding, that Light wonders if there's something more personal behind it. Experiences shape attitudes, and attitudes can change the entire world. In theory, anyway In practice it isn't nearly as simple as that.]

I can understand that. [It's a generous offering considering the skepticism Light is hiding.] Everyone wants the world to be a better place. Then again, not everyone is willing to put in the effort.

[Teru nods to this]

I know. Most people just go with the masses and if that means going against what's right, they'll do it.

[He'd seen it happen. Even those who supported him, back when he was stronger than the evil, had turned to bystanders... bullies, even, in some cases]

I'm not like that though. I just want to protect people from all the evil out in the world.

[And that was it. All Mikami had ever wanted and would ever want.]
