hello? can anyone read this?

[ A short pause, then the message continues: ]

i don't know what's going on. i'm scared. are you here, light? it looks like i'm in your room but -- you don't have a stuffed animal like this, do you? (i wouldn't let you live it down if you did!)

i found this cell phone next to it. am i dreaming? but everything feels too solid. right? i can't

[ Another pause, this one longer. ]

i mean i don't feel unsafe. maybe it's because things look so familiar. maybe i'm about to wake up! .... right?

[ And after a final, hanging pause, she places the blackberry back on the bed, accidentally pressing its keys in passing: ]

[The teen growls on the other end of the black berry. What the fuck is this? The Spanish fucking Inquisition?!]

I'm in the kitchen making a damn sandwich, wouldn't kill me to make two, to keep the damn kid in her damn room, until someone else can come along and deal with it. Frigging happy now?

[Light isn't happy, but he is happier than he has been in weeks. This kid has an undeniable soft spot for not just his mother, but for females in general. It's an amusing weakness, and one--Light notes--could be exploitable. He does, however, appreciate the lengths to which the brat is willing to go for his sister, and so he holds back the urge to respond with the catty comment, 'Don't burn down the kitchen' and instead sends a relatively kinder message.]

Try not to hurt yourself.

[Well despite the grand effort Light has made at civility... Dera is having none of it. Hence he ends the conversation with his usual class act]

Go to hell.
