[ Maybe it is an idiotic or stupid thing to do, but Nancy left the safety of her room. Then again, she wasn’t even sure yet if it was safe to stay in that room. Nothing made sense to her. This kidnapping wasn’t the normal kidnapping. What kind of kidnapper left a communication device to its captive? Or leave them unbound? Or leave the doors and windows unlocked.

It was probably the sleuth in her, but she found this whole situation very curious. She wanted answers.

She opened the fifth door she opened since she left her room and looked inside. It looked like a library. She stepped inside and ignored the door close behind her. Except for the public library and school library, she had never seen these many books before. Finding a volume that caught her eye, she removed it from the shelf and sat down. ]

I’ve been looking for this…

[ She tucks it under her arm to read for later. Now, she looks around wondering if there was someone to interrogate about this place. ]

Oh dear, Nancy Drew… what did you get yourself into now?

[Light's eyes narrow imperceptibly, not at the question but at the way it's phrased. The girl hadn't done anything suspicious or anything that would make her stand out as a new arrival, true enough, so then had she been deliberately trying to conceal that fact? It's an unusual choice to make considering it would put her at a disadvantage while she adjusted to the place. Her act may have worked too, had Light not been at the Manor as long as he had.]

I didn't recognize your face. [He smiles.] I've been at the Manor for a while. My name is Light. Light Yagami. And you are?

[ Still smiling at him uncertainly. Maybe he was right---though she didn't really do it on purpose. She was trying to avoid attention. She wasn't really looking to stand out, not until she had a clearer idea what they were doing here. Standing out unnecessarily wasn't a good idea when you're not really sure where you were.

He had probably been a little longer than her at least. If she had any luck, he could give her what she wanted to know. She turned to him, crossing her arms in front of her. ]

Nancy Drew, you can call me Nancy. It is great to meet you, Mr. Yagami. Or maybe I should call you, Light?

Do you think you can answer a few questions for me? I really hate being the new girl on the block.

Considering our age difference? [A pleasant laugh.] I think Light seems much more appropriate. It's a pleasure to meet you, Nancy-san. I would be happy to answer any questions you have, though of course, I can't guarantee that I will have an answer.

[ Nancy laughs. It was rather ridiculous to call him 'Mister.' ]

Great! Light, then, but I've got to be honest. That is not a name I come across everyday.

[ She arranges the questions in her head and began with the simplest one. ]

How long have you been here?

It is an unusual name, I'll admit. It's written with the Japanese kanji for 'Moon' but pronounced 'Light.' [He gives her a smile.] Odd, right?

To answer your question though, I've been here for four months now.

A bit. But it is kind of unique. My Japanese needs a little work, but I think the idea is interesting.

[ She paused at the answer. It was just too long. Four months. She couldn't stay missing for four months. That is like one semester and college was getting interesting. And her spot on the paper! ]

That is a pretty long to be here...
