Well, this seems to be a strange occurrence. I appear to have found myself far away from the hotel I fell asleep in.

I have to say: The technology is easy enough to figure out. Even though it is far more detailed and intriguing than I am accustomed to. I take
it this is some form of communication network.

Is there anyone out there that can give me answers? I promise I won’t take too much of your time.

[Very odd academic and a curiosity junkie, to boot - genetics and physics + the earlier perk at mention of abilities does give a very unusual and curious venn diagram for what his field is. "Things taken for granted" as the possible benchmark-identifier, indeed; given what he knows of the history of the "Black Organization", odds are good it's a different world, or they'd probably have already attempted to poach this one.]

Well, on the downside, equipment is in short supply; you're limited to whatever you can scrounge or build. On the upside, if you're good with a lot of legwork, interviewing, and observation, there's generally not more than four to five people from the same world, and quite a few people who're the only one from their world here, so depending on people's patience and tolerance levels and how careful you are, you could get a huge amount of information. [Not like he hasn't been cataloguing what he can on this on the side as just a practicality, nooo...] Also some of the 'changes of scenery' will mimic the worlds of origin of different people, although they're less reliable, since they tend to be - partial mockups. [And the not-people still creep him out.]

[The Black Org idea's one on hold to ask about later - Charles seems young enough that it's still a possibility. As for figuring this place out, someone with a more straight-science background who's interested in making sense of things is a godsend.]

Where I can; the population here is a mixed bag - but there are a few others that're working on trying to make sense of what they can. Some of the ones I was most familiar with have been - sent back to their worlds, so I've been a little short on some of the more reliable contacts lately. [Mukuro, as invested as he is in deciphering the Author's intentions and how this place works, isn't someone he'd trust any further than he could kick a battleship, and it's a sad truth that Light was another of his more solid contacts.] I also find myself interrupted by crisis management on a regular basis.

You'd be amazed what you can get used to after a while, as disturbing as some psychological adaptation and survival mechanisms can be. [Because yes, he is aware that the proper response to a zombie apocalypse is probably not 'Goddamnit you bitch I didn't mean for you to take that seriously' and then long-suffering annoyance.] Coordination gets messy, although we've found a few ways to cheat around that for emergencies, [Emma] and I'm fairly used to having to think on the fly. [Given that his studies of criminology and behavioral analysis in the classroom are kind of cart-before-the-horse on field experience...] Time to make notes and work at length, and compare notes, is catch-as-catch-can.

The help would be much appreciated; as much as some people here might not care, we are all in the same boat, and there's always the possibility the rules might change. [And understanding what's going on better, finding ways to get some control over the situation, and getting the people who truly don't want to be here home faster is a priority - even if the idea of going home himself is a bit painful and something flinched away from.] I think I've already mentioned part of this - I'm normally a detective, specializing in criminology and behavioral analysis; there's usually a few other detectives around...I think the Author has a fondness for mysteries and crime dramas. I can't say I've seen many other pure academics here at all, but then, we do have a mathematician among the volunteers, and what you've indicated about your field is almost certainly something unusual to bring to the table.

Thank you. [Yay loaded questions, eh?] In many cases, that can be more than enough; I've met housewives that were more help on cases than some of the professionals. [Cardiff. Fucking Cardiff.] I admit, considering some of what you've said and shown interest in, that I'm curious just what field you specialize in - if you want, we could go downstairs; I'm sure the kitchen and tea would be more comfortable than the hallway.
