I know that much. I feel like a fool - I was barely a block and a half away and hadn't known you were in the area until Kuroba mentioned it after I'd warned him. If I'd turned left instead of right a couple times, I would've been able to warn you.

No, but he was disoriented, had his gun out, and was looking for someone to interrogate.

And he recognized me as the international detective and the police chief's son.

That's what it'd looked like; honestly as agitated as he was, and with him having seen you interfering, that was a lot of bad luck and bad timing, in a bad place for it to happen.

I didn't know who he was - I guessed that he was one of them, but didn't act on it, or react to it, not until I was safely across town. Given that I was looking down a gunbarrel for it, I did comment on his profession, but framed it in him being mafia or something less extemporaneous, and in the circumstances - that we'd both been kidnapped by the same culprit.

And after that conversation, I turned my back to him as I walked away.

And you know that I wasn't harmed.

Again, you didn't get recognized for blowing up the black hawk.

No, but then, he also didn't ask too many questions about what a detective prone to psychology and analyzing and reconstructing motives who specialized in serial killers and screwed-up homicides was doing being so obsessive about a pacifist thief.

He may be in the running for the second most terrifying person I've ever met, but he's a predator - and I'm used to dealing with predators.

And I'm well aware that I wouldn't have been able to approach him so easily if he knew there was a reason to target me.

I didn't approach him-he approached me.

Because he's the reason for a lot of that.

And because for the time being, we're not dealing with a "them", we're dealing with a "him", and even if he can't kill us for good here, he can make our lives very difficult, and he can be very vindictive.

I'm not upset. I only put Conan's name on his black list- and then there's the fact he knows Kudo Shinichi is here too. I'm a sitting duck.

I'm a little bit more then upset right now.

I'm not panicking. Panicking won't help anything. I'm just nervous and I need to think this through some more.

Then you can confidently and truthfully say that you'd be able to react rationally if Gin were in the area, and actually work on countermeasures to keep him from shooting you again?

It shouldn't be a matter of looking over your shoulder "every fucking five seconds". Just a matter of caution, taking reasonable precautions, and thinking rationally.

Do you know what happens when you get afraid enough to stop thinking in front of a predator?
