Well, this seems to be a strange occurrence. I appear to have found myself far away from the hotel I fell asleep in.

I have to say: The technology is easy enough to figure out. Even though it is far more detailed and intriguing than I am accustomed to. I take
it this is some form of communication network.

Is there anyone out there that can give me answers? I promise I won’t take too much of your time.

She's beautiful. *though he's skeptical about 'magic' per se, he's not going to question it right now with the evidence before his eyes*

[Question it and she will give you the Most Triumphant Example of an ambient mage.] That she is. Not many ambient mages break out in ways that create a thing of beauty, instead of destroying things or scaring people.

*Okay no, his curiosity always wins out* Now, when you say 'ambient mage', what is it exactly that you mean? *still watching the glass dragon, wishing he could meet her in person so he could see it up close*

Where I'm from, there are two sorts of mages. Academic mages, who are likely what you think when I say mages, and ambient mages, who are born with power expressed through a specific thing- such as plants, glass, all sorts of thread-working, smithing- and even the weather. Most people tend to underestimate the more subtle touch of an ambient mage... [Unless you're about as subtle as a brick, the way she is.]

Intriguing. *he bites at his lip thoughtfully*

*he sits down, and mutters to himself for a moment about various manifested mutations and how could he have missed such a thing. He's not being intentionally vague, he's just thinking too fast for his muttering to keep up*

What. [Listen to snippets of things on the wind enough and you learn to pick out what people are saying when they mutter. She might not catch all of it, but...]

*licks his lips and gathers his thoughts so he can explain. Hand gestures are a go!*

I have, in fact, met various people with mutations such as you describe, but not in the concentration I imagine you mean. From what you are saying there is a community of these 'mages' correct? And yet I have never even heard of it. *much less felt it himself. He connected with so many mutants using Cerebro and it still seems as if his knowledge is severely lacking*

[Tris is folding her arms.] There are schools of magic, yes, for those born with the power to use it. However, there is a degree of magic inherent in all people, there if you have the eyes to see it. [Tris is adjusting her glasses significantly.]

Incredible, though I must disagree that all people are capable to a degree. Most of the population, so far as I can thus tell, are entirely human with no ability whatsoever.

I could be wrong, of course, but in my research there is nothing at all that says individuals without the mutated gene are capability of using what you call 'magic'.

*he is trying to sound completely respecting of her beliefs, but it's just so HARD when magic, as people commonly think of it, just doesn't exist*

I provide a demonstration. [Tris has this very flat look on her face.] I could spell a glass or something for you to look through, so you can see things the way I can. I can assure you, it is inherent to everyone, regardless of possessing the ability to use it.

*if you just meet up he wouldn't need your spells to do that, but best not to say that. He's trying to be incognito*

You would do that for me?

It's a rather basic spell to me, all things being equal. [Tris knows she has Facts on her side. And you at least seem to be willing to have a demonstration... her pique means she's going to do this in a public place, where she's sure someone with weird power will come across it.] Meet me in the kitchen?

Of course. Give me a little bit of time to find it and I'll meet you there. *bustling about the room, looking for a small notebook and a pen. His interest is piqued and he's anticipating learning something very new*

Of course. I need a bit of time as well, to actually spell the glass. [She's going to cut the feed and go into the kitchen, Chime in tow. Charles will probably find her with a chair, etching signs into... a shot glass. It works. :|]

*he's certainly not going to complain about the shot glass, not when he's learning something new and fascinating.

When he finds the kitchen at last he pauses for a moment to watch her, stretching out his power just a little bit. She was focused entirely on the glass, symbols floating at the edge of her mind. He left it at that and waited, not wanting to disturb her*

[After a few moments, Tris is clearly finished.] The biggest problem is that testing it to make sure it works doesn't work on me- I don't need spells to see magic at all. [It's actually sort of the opposite, and her mind does flicker to the fact that the spells on her glasses are for dampening that sight.] Here. Look through the bottom of the glass at me and tell me if you see anything.

[There's a touch of almost barbed humor in her mind at that statement- she knows damn well what is going to happen.]

*he walks in, a little wary after feeling her thoughts on the subject, and holds his hand out for the shot glass*

I believe you that it works. I never doubted that.

*he holds it up to his eye without hesitation, facing her, and has to close it for a few seconds after his first glance because of how bright she was*

It is unfortunate that in order to see magic in people who aren't so inclined, it becomes difficult to look at those of us who do have it. [Especially to the ridiculous degree she has it.]

[She's pulling out her blackberry and calling up Saguru because she needs an example of someone who has no ability to use magic.] Saguru? Could you spare a moment to come to the kitchen? I'll make it worth your while. [Because she's pretty sure that, at least in the Manor, Saguru could use something like that.]

[Sagaru wasn't far away anyway - he's been restless and "patrolling" quite a bit - so it's only a minute or so before he pokes his head in the kitchen cautiously - it didn't sound like an emergency...]

[Spots Tris, and Charles, and Chime, and is - now not sure what's going on or what he's been called on for.]

Charles - [He nods to the professor-] You wanted something, Tris?

Apparently, it seems, Tris is trying to show me how to see...magic. *quickly losing his skepticism about the magic aspect. He hasn't yet heard of a mutant power that could allow others to see things this way, and he'd know if someone was playing with his mind.

He's toying with the shot glass in his hand. He'd tried looking at Tris with it several more times out of fascination while waiting for Saguru, but his eyes couldn't handle the brightness for too long at a time*

[Tris has noticed. And is amused.] The spell on that should let you see the inherent life energy in any normal, nonmagical human being. Sorry, Saguru, you're an example.

[Chime has decided she likes Saguru, and is going to fly over to land on him with her glass armonica purr going full bore.]

Ah, I see. [He steps in, standing by the door with arm raised for Chime - same gesture you'd use for a hawk, albeit without the glove, and going through his pocket with his free hand for some other coins and small shiny parts that're leftovers from older versions of the smoke grenades.]

*taking his cue, Charles raised the glass to his eye again and looked at Saguru and Chime, his eyebrows nearly disappearing in his hairline.*

This is remarkable. *now that it wasn't blinding him* It's like the ability to see some kind of aura around a living creature.

It's most useful for seeing when someone has spelled something, though not always. [Some mages are subtle enough to be able to hide their traces- rumor has it Ladyhammer is one of them.] I see magic all the time, though rarely at that intensity. [Unless she takes her glasses off, but since she likes being able to see...]

[Chime is positively gleeful, and chattering happily.] I'd say you were going to spoil her, Saguru, only everyone does.

[For the most part, he's perfectly happy to fly on the wall for this a little - some suspicions aside, he hasn't had much chance to really learn about the supernatural behind sketchy books and trying to watch Akako without drawing her attention, plus what he's run into here.]

Just let me know if there's something I shouldn't.
