Mary Winchester | 11 | [Action/Video]

[Mary was more than ready for a normal (or semi normal) day. Seeing that there was no need to worry for anyone here and the boys were enjoying themselves...she decided to actually go and enjoy herself for a change. Especially after the last plot, she was pleased to see that there was actual food here. After a day of shopping, dancing, and general sight seeing, she was ready to relax at a local pub for a bit. Setting up at a table out of the way, Mary was enjoying some chicken, bread pudding...and you guessed it. Beer. It may not have been a relaxing tea or white wine, but she could hold her own as far as alcohol went.

Raising her hand to get the bartenders attention, she motioned to her empty mug, her voice carrying over the noise in the pub.
]

Another.

[Waiting on her beer, she was already planning what else she'd be doing...perhaps she'd just turn in and relax in her room after this. Well, that was the plan if nothing more interesting came along.

She still hadn't noticed the feed was on and even if she did...she probably wouldn't care. She was having fun for the first time in what felt like ages and she wouldn't let anyone ruin it for her.

[Katherine frowns, she doesn't find that a comfortable thought.]

I don't really know anything about it, but I didn't intend to be...visually eavesdropping. Are you from the manor?

[identity profile] namednotdeath.livejournal.com 2011-11-02 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
[It seems to Katherine that there's rather a lot of things to worry about in regards to the manor.]

I haven't. Phones? I thought it was called a BlackBerry.

[That's what it says on it, after all.]

[A blank stare. Katherine doesn't know what a phone is. She's trying, though, and not knowing what it is hasn't prevented her from learning how to use it.]

...It's certainly not a fruit. That I'm sure of.

[identity profile] namednotdeath.livejournal.com 2011-11-02 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
[Katherine tilts her head.]

We send letters. But I've picked up that the Blackberry's...almost instantaneous?

Oh. [Katherine gives a nervous little laugh.] It just feels so weird, to see someone but not be in front of them.

[Although speaking of personal...] I think I forgot to introduce myself. My apologies. I'm Katherine.

[It'd be a little hard for Katherine to manage a full curtsey here in the bar, or in the clothing she's currently wearing, but Katherine gives it a try anyway.]

[Katherine smiles back, taking a piece of the offered food.]

A little. Nice to meet you, Mary.

Do you know where we are?

[It's not the biggest deal if she doesn't. Katherine's certain that this place is a lot more pleasant than the other non-manor place she was at last week.]

[Katherine liked alcohol fine, so long as she didn't have too much of it. She didn't know what a Germany was, though. Since Mary seemed comfortable with the alcohol, Katherine thought she could probably presume that the beer was safe. She waved to the bartender to get his attention and ask for one.]

Two weeks, or near enough. It's been a very...hectic time.

[identity profile] namednotdeath.livejournal.com 2011-11-08 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Then I have better things to look forward to, which would be good news indeed.

[Katherine smiles brightly, although she'd still so much rather be home there's no need to be pessimistic about these things. And she had her beer now, so it wasn't all bad, certainly.]

I heard many of us are from different places...Where did you call home?

[identity profile] namednotdeath.livejournal.com 2011-11-08 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Neither of those names means anything to her. She wonders a little bit why she asked, it's not like she's likely to run into someone from her city. But she wants to learn where everyone is from, maybe she could come up with maps...]

I'm the Duchess of Tremontaine. Back home.

[Katherine frowns.]

...I didn't have an heir named.

[Her uncle wouldn't be happy about this, as he'd rather explicitly given her the estate, not any of her older brothers, and he'd hate if it defaulted to them.]

[identity profile] namednotdeath.livejournal.com 2011-11-08 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
[Katherine wasn't really used to people 'catering' to her or nicer things. She'd grown up well enough to get by, but they'd counted the silverware every couple of months because it was one of the easiest things for her family to sell if they had to. Katherine wasn't even under consideration for any kind of title until her mad uncle decided that dressing her up in boy's clothes and teaching her how to duel with a sword was the perfect way to get back at Katherine's mother, his sister, for marrying a man he didn't approve of.]

It smells much better in the manor than it did in Riverside. I'm glad to hear about the time, though.

[That was really the only reason the fact that she was 'royalty' had any relevance at all. She had an obligation not to let things that were supposed to be under her supervision fall apart, although certainly Marcus and Artemisia could manage well enough if they would only have to do so for a little while.]

[identity profile] namednotdeath.livejournal.com 2011-11-08 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
[Katherine takes a third sip of her beer. She wasn't a very good duchess, if being a duchess was defined by how pompous and posh she was. She was a pretty good duchess if it was defined by her political savvy. Her uncle's standard of being a Duke had always been how dramatic he could make it, and that always stood out more than the numerous social reforms he'd managed.]

Is there...war in Kansas?

[It seems like the best reason Katherine can think of that things would be so bad with the awkwardness that Mary tells it with.]

[identity profile] namednotdeath.livejournal.com 2011-11-08 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[Katherine picks up some of the nuances, enough to tell her that the man wasn't welcome and that Mary thought she could protect the child if she were there. And that there wasn't anyone else ready to step in to protect her child. Katherine winces in automatic sympathy.]

Oh god. I'm sorry. I hope your baby will be okay.
